whats your ideal drift speed while fluking? I feel my comfort zone is about 1.5knts. There I can hold a 2oz-3oz bucktail on the bottom and dont have to go to a sinker rig. Sunday morning there was no wind. barely moving at .3-.5. We caught a million short seabass. one 1 short fluke to show for it. My initial thought is the fluke have to long to look at the jig, and illiminates that reaction bite.

I'm no pro.... But I like .5 - 1.5Knots TOPS. I prefer the slower speeds. I shake the Jig like I'm rubbing one out and do fairly well. 1-2 ounce jigs w/a teaser. If I have to use 3 ounces, i'm swithing to bait.

My friend, before he passed, did real well on a faster drift. From 1.5 to 1.75 knots. He had an electric to get the boat up to that speed if there wasn't enough current or wind to get to that speed. Did real well.

I use that same technique. Must be the years of perfecting it.

I prefer a deadstick medium fast, but your getting late in the season... they are pretty dispersed by August... you'll find some pockets, but a lot of the usual haunts get quiet...

I can catch a little of most inshore kinds of fish ..........But I,d never be hired as a guide or write a book ........................unless its a {ROCK} contest .,.,.,.,:fishin::uhuh:

I just drift with what ever the current is, use what ever weight holds the bottom. been doing it this way for years!!
rig simple, 25# leader, no need for floro, 3 way with a sinker, 6/0 gammy octopus hook. start wit squid and first fluke is bait after that you going good! A long strip for slow tide a short strip for a fast tide.

This was about 1.5 knts running under the boat,,, on the hook out by devils bridge,,,,
