View Full Version : How Has Your Season Been So Far?
BigFish 08-24-2013, 06:46 AM Curious if this season is meeting your personal expectations? Have you met any goals you may have set? Are you having a good season? A not so good season? Getting out as much as you want or not enough? Lets hear what you think and how are you going to finish the season as we head into the Fall!:fishin:
rphud 08-24-2013, 06:53 AM Cutty and done. Trying to make up for it this fall on the Vineyard, and maybe Block and then home to Jersey for a weekend or two and Thanksgiving time.
Funny how life can get in the way of fishing. Anymore I think I need to book a trip to an Island to get any in. Fishing less but enjoying it more when I am.
Maybe I need to quit my day job Spring and Fall. That or Powerball!
BigFish 08-24-2013, 07:05 AM I am always looking for a new personal best and I got that out of the gate Memorial Day weekend so that was cool! I have been doing much better from the shore the last few weeks.....getting more fish and the quality is good! From the yak I started the season good then a bit of a lull during the summer doldrum period but that has been good of late as well! I am looking forward to a great Fall season!!:uhuh:
No complaints on my end.
BTW Larry I used one of you plugs today caught one shorty and had a large blast on it about 20'away from me,the plug went flying in the air doing cart wheels and we could see the last half of the fish banging a U Turn on the surface,it was a cool sight to see.
Hey Larry, go large this year!

piemma 08-24-2013, 10:01 AM My best year since 06. Tons of big bass in the boat. Sharks with Rockhound and more than my share from the Canal. No complaints.:uhuh:
ProfessorM 08-24-2013, 10:25 AM Spectacular one specific land spot all season, top 5 in the last 28 years I have been frequenting this area. Usually 5 or 6 days in a row of great fishing around the moons, new and full, since late May and I did not miss a one of them.:) This past week has really been my slowest at that area all season, but that was only becasue I did not pick the right spots to be in.
My usually guaranteed great tin boat spring spot was off this year, which was very disappointing but the above commented fishing made up for it. My other main stay summer boat spot was not so good. Got some big fish but very low numbers. That being said that area has started to produce now and should only get better as it historically does thru the month of September but the Albies will be closing in soon so getting out there to chase those large bass will get tough as they seem to coincide with each other but no one says you can't chase the warm southern water Albies in the morning and the cooler water north side bass in the late afternoon, well maybe my boss or my wife may have an opinion on that but it has never stopped me before:uhuh:. Love the fall. Good luck guys. Lots of fishing ahead but it will be gone before you know it so don't procrastinate. P.
N.ShoreFisher 08-24-2013, 12:28 PM been good for me. Each year I catch more fish, learn a little more and am slowly learning what does and doesn't work for me when it comes to routine, gear and superstitions...lol. All in all, been a good one. Always wish I fished more, but glad I've had the time I did. Here's to a good fall run!!
mine started off a little slow, just couldn't find time to fish. last 2 months I've been at it pretty good. boat bite has been great, I've got to fish a ton of new spots. chunking the beach has been on the slow side - action but all smaller fish but that should should change soon. looking forward to some tunas big and small
BigFish 08-24-2013, 02:42 PM Niko...learn to plug the beach!! :uhuh:
PRBuzz 08-24-2013, 04:59 PM My scup season has been off the wall! I have also gotten several others afflicted to scupping, BSB'ing, fluking, etc.

Liv2Fish 08-24-2013, 06:47 PM Hours fished / quality fish landed = much better than years past.
Horus fished compared to years past = much worse. Too much chit going on. Missed almost all May and into June. Never again.:smash:
Rappin Mikey 08-24-2013, 08:29 PM :devil2:It's been tough to get out as much with a 1 year old and living in Western MA. I picked my times to the shore right in the Spring. The run in the CT River started out good but ended up being pretty washed out for June. Other than that, I have been doing a bunch of bass fishing in the ponds around my house and got a new PB LM this year! have a few dates and tides picked out for the Fall Run. The freedom to fish is not like it was for me without a doubt. But little Kerry Elizabeth is definitely worth staying home for. Until she gets big enough to go with me that is. I even ran the AC for her all Summer.
BigFish 08-24-2013, 09:45 PM Niko anytime man...surf or boat! I am free for awhile?? Say the word?
blue oyster 08-25-2013, 08:45 AM :yak6: sums it up
tlapinski 08-25-2013, 04:18 PM Small shots of quality fish here and there filled in with tons and tons of small fish. I think we are seeing the effects of that banner YOY number 2 seasons back as the sheer number of 12-inch bass has been astonishing.
Jackbass 08-26-2013, 04:29 AM Haven't had the time I normally do this year to fish the times I want to, so it has been a little difficult to stay in touch with fish. I learned a new spot on cape which is great. Caught some decent fish. But overall the fishing schedule has been filled with work related business. Unfortunately my fall will be equally full. Oh well can't complain.

GregW 08-26-2013, 04:58 AM I still haven't decided.
This year has been much slower than the past two for me. I've dropped some very nice fish this year- so atleast I had a shot.
I just finished the marathon of a summer schedule (7am- 9:30pm between school and work) and am ready to start fishing hard again.
The next two months will really make the difference towards my rating. I've fished with new people- which is always a goal of mine. Now I gotta get into some larger bass and a shark.

numbskull 08-26-2013, 05:54 AM Some years life gets in the way. That about sums up my season so far.
The best thing about fishing, however, is that it will wait for you like a friend and welcome you back when you return.
JohnnySaxatilis 08-26-2013, 06:06 AM Oh ya know just gettin monsters like this every day. jig bite has been on fire for me lately. and I got my PB cormorant earlier this year. Things are really lookin up :tm:
May thru June I was disappointed with both size and numbers, but I've had a great, enjoyable season so far. Lots of fish all on plugs, just nothing over low 20s. Looking forward to Fall fishing and big bait :)
Rockfish9 08-26-2013, 06:38 AM stange season so far.. slow out of the gate.. white hot now..... inshore ground fishing never happend this spring...offshore has been outstanding..heavy run off this sumer early on seemed to effect what has been a gaurenteed big fish moon in June in recent years.. the fish just never showed..I suspect the mud and debris in the river kepth them offshore and to the north I've seen more small to medium
fish than we've seen in 20 or more years... large have required some hunting... I took a 54lb fish in early July... my 17th over the half century mark... but until two weeks ago.. . most fish were shoolies
teens and twenties... anything larger was difficult to find, with only one 36lber in between... it changed two weeks ago.. large have been a lot more predictable and eaiser to locate in small numbers... I had a pair of "40's" one night and quite a few in the thirties the same week... mixed in with those low to mid "teens".. which have almost become a plague...it's to the point where you move 4 -5 times a night to get away from them to find something larger...last week was the best fishing of the summer and best in about 3 years... Wednesday night... top 5 ever for shear numbers of mixed school fish...not once in 7 hours did I ( or the other boat I called in..)go more than 3 casts with out a fish...we were fishing eels, but those fish were feeding heavy and it would have been the same with plugs... I left them feeding to get a few hours sleep before work.. ....heavy mix of fish from low teens to 40 ( lbs not inches)..no doubt in my mind they are headed south... location of the schools each night backs that up..for us it will be over in a blink of and eye...it's a strange summer that loks like it might go out with a bang...
Overall I would say it's been a good to very good year. Plenty of ups and downs with some very good nights and some very long fishless nights but that comes with the territory. I've caught a few big fish and lots of smaller fish. There have been some real small fish around this year (12" range) which I hope is an encouraging sign of things to come and a good mix of fish in the teens and twenties.
Spring was slow but thats become the norm fishing the rivers around these parts in recent years.
The early part of the summer was pretty average and then a couple of weeks spanning from late June into early July were very good with some good sized fish taken. Since then things slowed down to about average but I've been able to get a few decent fish on most outings. I had one other noteworty night with a couple of big fish at the end of July.
August has been a bit of a struggle with my biggest fish of the month so far going only 26# but there is still a little bit of time left. I always like late August into September and am looking forward to my schedule finally freeing up after this upcoming weekend so that I can get out a little more consistenly. I still have 3.5 weeks of vacation (aka fishing) time to use up this year :uhuh:
Rockport24 08-26-2013, 03:56 PM Looks like another 50 was landed in the area this past week (weighed in at surfland) so I hope you are right and they are headed just a little further south!
Having a very consistent year on the kayak and been having a ton of fun with the teen size fish Joe mentioned! Only bigger ones came when it was easy to get live macks earlier in the season, just an awesome thing when a good fish slams a mack trolled behind the kayak, highlight of the season for sure.
Gonna try to keep getting out before work and then try to do some night missions to try to go larger...
