My, with all the fish you are keeping lately, you must have a large family to feed.

Freindly advice: Take the camera WITH you next time. Then the fish doesn't ALWAYS have to be killed for it's size.

I am not having a bad day. Just getting used to the trophy hunt that goes on on this website.

I NEVER want to hear any of you guy's talking conservation again unless you can back up your actions.

And this is NO direct critique of you Mike. You fish therefore you land them. You probably have good reasons for keeping. The law allows it. I hope you don't misunderstand me.

Nice fish !

What was it caught on ?

Bad news for some, good for others. Well, my last day of work today. The computer at my school is the only one I have daily access to, so unfortunately I won't be able to log on as often as I want. Plus, the pisser of the situation is I have to go to Texas today for a week (girlfriend's sister's wedding/leaving tonight) Right when everything is getting interesting down by the river. It seems like only yesterday when my brother named me Rappin Mikey. I will really, miss everybody over there at S-B. It's been real. This is RM signin out. (Until I land that 50) Peace!

Beachwalker, I actually have a little block party/fish fry everytime I catch a nice fish. My neighbors really enjoy it, and I really like fish. Oh yeah, that is only the fourth fish I've kept all year. Is that too many? Because I have caught MANY more than that. This fish will be cooked and shared with everyone at my work today. Plus, it is one of the biggest ones I have ever caught. Please, don't misunderstand me, but don't cast judgements on a fisherman who lives in Western MA. I usually I have to drive 4 hours to keep a fish. The truth is, fishing is only going to be like this for me for about one month. I am going to keep a fish or two. Don't be a hater dude. If I need advice I will ask.

Mike,

Seek first to understand and then be understood. Read my post, again. No hatred there.

WHAT DID YOU CATCH THEM ON ? I am seeking to learn and not just salivate over a photo.

Thank you

Everything I have learned has been from a little book called "Fishing for Dummies" You might not like the book, it has many photos. But the info you are looking for is within those pages. Good Luck, can't wait to see your catch.

Thanks mike,

You humor is most appreciated. It indicates to me how unhappy and unable you are to SHARE information.
I have read Fishing for Dummies and found it a great book. I am thrilled that you actually admit to beginning as a dummy like I did.

If it is a contest to show you my catch then it will be a long wait for you. With your response ( to the lure question that I as asked going unanswered) being what it is, I have heard all i need to hear from you.

Please feel free to file a complaint with the moderators.

The truth can be a tuogh eel to swallow some days.

I thought it was humurous that you made an extremely sarcastic comment like "you must have a large family to feed" and then said no offense and asked me for advice. I do have a good sense of humor and that merited my response. However, it seems like you are in a bad mood, and I would appreciate it if you would stop all the displacement. Don't critcize, realize. I'll PM you with what you are looking for. They have been very hard to find around here, and the one tackle shop I know that has them is always selling out. This will be my last time on the board for a while and I'd like not to leave on a sour note. No hard feelings Beachwalker? You just can't erase spiteful comments with a "not a direct critique on you" apology.

Mike,

Thanks for hanging with this and TRY to understand the "large family to feed" comment. YOU said, in response, that you have a neighborhood fry-up with your catch. That is AWESOME ! I have no problem with that. That is the TRUTH. The truth can initially cause offense, remember ? That is your large family. I try and stick with the CURRENT facts and not keep backing up, playing the "Blame Game".

I am not trying to be a prick. I say and ask what I believe to be
relevant, but preface it by doing some thoughtful homework, FIRST.

It may have come from years of NOT doing my homework.

We are works in progress. In fishing and in life.

Have a safe trip and nail 'em when you return !

Jugstah and All,

I definetly precipitated this one. I am not asking for anyone to tell me who's right or wrong. I was wrong to bust on Mike for displaying the kill, again.

I can be a prick and I accept it.

It keeps them away from me when I want to fish elbow to elbow.

If ignorance is bliss, then knowledge is blithering !

MC Mikey , , , some people would rather buy their fish from the market...it comes dressed already... joke

mr. Nantucket...as long as someone stays within the law...stop being a pricker :D we all have our reasons for keeping fish.

My family comes from a long line of fishers. They originated on an island..."Gilligan's" island, I think. Anyways...due to poverty, fish was their main meal. My father has 10 brothers and sisters, yes Big family..(why have so many kids when you live in poverty??...I've asked the same question, in those days...kids became workers earlier {farm-work} and you didnt' have to pay your kids, only feed them) They couldn't kill their cows because that was also a source of income <Milk>, so they fished when they could and bartered throughout the community for what they needed. Living the life I lead now, I can't imagine how they survived, nevermind coming to America and giving birth to a crab. My family still enjoys eating fish and I live for the moments when I knock on their door and barter some fresh fish for a warm hug, a cold beer and a walk down memory lane.

I'd much rather be-friend the guy who takes a fish home everynight, then the guy who thinks he's a conservationist and doesn't even know how to release a fish properly.

Mikey - - - have a safe trip, and don't fall in love with any sheep while your down there...  :laughs:

I only have one thing (OK two things) to add this eloquent spar / pissin contest / mildly sarcastic rant (right now anyway). 1st RM - glad you caught a decent fish this AM, it is nice to throw them back from time to time but when within the law.... & I'm also hoping you don't attach 47 pics of the same fish on a thread (note the mild sarcasm & smilies here :D ) - it's a technical issue. You see, the more and more people make 30 posts to show 30 pics of the same fish, the more and more my database for the site swells up with pics. I don't mind pics - hell I encourage it - but unless its a true monster or a memorable moment like a fish with your kid, please limit 1 - preferably - or 2 pics - max - for a fish (and no flexing - those pits stank :rollem: ) . This makes it easier on the sites DB...

Thanks....

ON A SERIOUS NOTE what fish eat stripers i was down the canal and a schoolie went by bit in half his whole tail end was gone it must of just happened cause he was still kicking do the sport fisherman really make an impact compared to commercial and predators of the sea that because we keep a fish it can cause an arguement

I promise only big fish pictures from now on. And just one. I just figured out all of this technical computer picture stuff two days ago. I went a bit picture crazy. Those are all the same fish anyway, I just changed my clothes/facial hair a bunch of times so youz guyzes thought I caught a lot of fish. I've always wanted to sit at the cool kids table you see. Anyway, like I said before I won't be around for a while. You guys know what I look like now (from many different angles) So, please keep an eye out for me at the Race this year. I'd love to chilly chill with y'all. Yee ha! off to Texas!

I can pull the engine out and get it ready...but as far as choosing the correct size engine (proportion-wise) for my type of hull and the electronics - as far as ingnition/steering/and all the other bull#^&#^&#^&#^& that I have no clue about....just ask the clam-man...:laughs: ..I had him shaking his head when he saw that I didn't belong in a boat. He made me think that I shouldn't be nervous about being in 2 feet of water in a 24' boat. See, I gotta lotta learning to do...

To all it may concern,

I have a lot of respect for anyone on this site. Please Don't assume what I know or don't about catch, eat or release. I eat plenty of fish and grew up in a WORKING, fishing family. I asked Mike the proper questions and he wasn' t into answering. Follow the thread, reading one of them doesn't always provide enough information.

If any of you think that I am some kind of fish hugging conservationist you are assuming once again.

Mike ended up learning a few things as I did as well.

Seek first to understand and then be understood. Doesn't matter if you 1 or 100. That is my opinion and I am glad that any of my statements brought out your side.

I was taught by my Grandfather, who was a close friend of Shang Wheeler (let's see if anyone knows who he was) that arguements reveal the true side of ones patience and demeanor.

I am getting some of that feedback as we speak.

John, thanks for the comments on picture postings. That was my point.
I apologize to the entire membership for pissing in anyones popcorn. Mike and I have spoke (and you didn't have the luck of hearing in on all of it) and we both agree on things.

Dear mister bloocrab,

I am well practiced in the release of fish. I won't even venture to assume you aren't. I don't live here because I have some trust fund supporting my leisure and life. I work hard for my fishing time.

Period.

...sounds good, but the boat ain't in Warwick. ;) I'd love some opinions. As of right now, I've got him rechecking what he said he already had fixed. I told him...NO MORE $$$!!...call me first.

I spoke with him yesterday and was told there was water in 2 compartments of the lower unit. He swears he pressure tested it, and doesn't understand how the water got in there...oh boy!!

...someday next week, if you want to take a ride...Pm for Cell if you mis-placed it.

Is this the Shang Wheeler of Stratford, Connecticut. who made some of the most beatiful Wood Ducks ever carved and painted? A couple of his birds sold for 40 to 50.000,00 a piece on an auction. (1996 i think, I have to look it up).

am I right, did I win????? :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: <jk>

Nils,

Yes you won. My family had a farm in Lordship (Stratford) that was taken by the Gov't in the 30's. They built an airport and developed the Corsair there. They filled in some of the best coastal estuaries that lower LIS had ever seen. I grew up Bass and Weak fishing on the Housy and in Milford/Lordship.

Pop new Shang well. I won't comment about what we have from him, but the education he passed on to my Grandpop and Dad is a cherished memory in our family.

What a person learns from their elders is vital to the future of experience. Shang and company were very proactive hunters.
They didn't kill for the prize of killing.

Don't doubt this. It is truth.......

And somehow that causes offense sometimes
