Anyone towing their boat with a Yukon or Tahoe? How do you like it? My 4 runner is having a hard time towing the new boat up hills. im looking to upgrade. Looking for any feedback.

BB I have a 07 Tahoe that I haul my 24' boat (around #7000)with and am very satisfied with it's performance while towing. I don't tow it much thou as it's only to the water in the spring and out in the fall.

I tow my boat with a Trailblazer. No issues with a 21' Sea Hunt CC and a Yami 4 stroke. Around 3000 # dry.

tows 6000lbs fine. no issues going over the cape bridges after flying down 195 from dartmouth to get to sandwich etc.

Having an awesome GMC dealership helps too...you should take the service manager out on that boat sometime.

I have had a couple yukon XL's . Bought them both from Battles new. Never had a problem with either. Towed the 23' seacraft with no problem at all. The latest one I have pulled the 32' mirage out of the water and drove down the street aways but I have never taken it on the highway. I am overloading it and don't want to push my luck. Still no problem. You put that sucker in low 4wd and it comes out no problem. I have pulled the 37' trailer with no boat on the highway and it again was no problem. The combo of an 18' truck and a 37' trailer pushes the limit the ferry will let me put on.

If you have a big rig get the 2500 model if you have a smaller boat go for the 1500. The towing package is worth the $.


I think if you go with a full size GMC Ford or big dodge you will have no problem. I picked the GMC because that was the closest dealer to me and I wanted the interior space for fishing gear/kids/dog/ski crap/boat crap/visitors/kayaks/dinghies/giant BJ runs etc

i was looking at the yukon denali. That way the wife can drive it too. Also keep getting intriqued by the Tundras. The tundra limited is a sweet looking rig.

My only thought on the Denali is it is all wheel drive, personally I prefer selectable four wheel drive. You can get almost every option in the Yukon SLT 2 package as you can the Denali, but you will have true 4X4 and can get a 5.3 liter versus the 6.2 in the Denali.
Not much towing difference either the 6.2 Denali max towing is 8100#, the SLT2 max is 8000# with the 3.42 gear ratio. The price difference isn't huge either once you really load up the SLT 2. I work at a GMC dealer in Wareham, if you need any help or questions let me know.

Seen guys get some slip at Sandwich with AWD. Never with 4wd.

I have the Tahoe and think its great! Not towing any more cause sold the boat,but it was great. I have the 4.8 and would say the 5.3 be much better on the hills but it was fine for my 23 footer.

Maco: the 5.3 pulls like a monster, no issues on hills with it, I do use tow mode on hills on back roads, but on say 195, sitting at 55mph, no issues with hills etc. (even the hill westbound hitting new bedford)

Ended up getting the 2014 tunda limited. Gave me a great trade on the 4runner. Really wanted a pick up. Truck is a beast.
