This week proved to be much like last week for me although other reports of a few keepers and a sizeable 42" were caught off the beach. For me it was schoolies and more schoolies.
Never skunked this week but no keepers. The bait of choice has switched this week to clams it seems to be getting the bigger fish.
I usally surf two poles one with clam and one with worm. Pulled in my first blue so it won't be long before it's time for wire leaders.
For all those sick of the rain I recommend a rain suit there inexpensive and an easy soulution. Yesterday I fished four hours in the rain, got 6 schoolies, 1 flounder and 2 skates when the skates started hittin I packed up. Looks like better weather ahead so good luck and tight lines.

They're aggressive fish sweetie if there is food in there path, they'll eat it.
I used salted clams for the first time a few weeks ago, I'm sold on em, thats the best solution I've seen to keeping the clams on the hook during the cast.

This I will have to try. I used them on the boat to get my ONE haddock and Sandshark.
Any specific way to order these at the bait shop?

I like mine fried with the belly... Just Kidding they usually come in pints or quarts size containers. Thread them on the hook, fish them on the bottom with a fishfinder rig.

If you really want the good stuff get the clams in the shell.

Doesn't that make it a lot of work....the shells??

SF a fishfinder rig is a plastic sleeve with a connecting link. You thread your line from the reel through the plastic sleeve. Tie on a barrel swivel. To the other eye of the swivel tie on a leader of 2"-3" 30lb mono line. Attatch your bait hook to the end of the leader. For glams I like a Gamakatsu Octopus hook size 7/0 or 8/0. Open the connecting link and attatch a bank sinker, what ever weight you need that will keep your line from drifting very far. Thread a nice chunk of purple clam on, cast out. When the bait settlesa to the bottom, take up the slack, loosen the drag on your spool so that the striper can run with the bait on pickup. This will also keep you from losing a rod to an over zealous fish. Pick up the rod, grab the spool and hold it tight, when the line goes tight set the hook. Then with your rod tip high, slowy tighten your drag, so the fish does'nt spool you. Just don't over tighten it or you will break off the fish.
