Sick video!

Gives a lot of insight into the labor of love of plug building. Too many people done realize how many steps it is to make a plug.

Great editing by the way.

Thanks Chris! For example...I count painting as 1 step! It actually has many depending on the color! Basecoat...each color is an individual shoot and if it has scales...more! My bunker pattern has 9 colors and multiple coats of some of them! Thats alot of handling! They are alot of work! I love it though!

I did alot of the editing on this but FishChick is the brains behind the editing! LOL!

Second high quality video you two have produced. Both hit the subject dead on, just as most on this site want to see it!
What I took away is that I may have to consider doing larger numbers before moving on to the next step.... Seems more economical. The bottleneck would hit me at the epoxy step, as I am limited to numbers there.

It also made me realize that I really need to standardize the dimensions of the stock I begin with. Otherwise I will have to keep adjusting the fence, sled, and jigs according to the dimensions of the stock. Great inspiration to get going.....

Ross I do batches of 100 of each plug style at a time and get all the bodies to primer and ready for paint...that way I have them in a pinch if needed! I just keep them boxed and stored! I am small time so not that much pressure!:)

I enjoyed the video very much. Very impressive skills

But something I also took from the video is that Big Fish is not soo big anymore. Not as big as when I met him on Cutty years ago. If I keep eating like I have been I will be Big Wader-Dad and Larry will just be Fish.

You changed the lip you use or are there two different models shown?

BigFish
01-12-2014, 11:55 AM
2 different lips George. I started making a pikie lipped "Prey" last season from the same body....re-weighted it accordingly and added the pikie lip! Amazing the depth it can go and the action! I had been wanting to make something that swam deeper so I just thought the body shape was right......it worked! I have had great results with it and getting deeper has certainly increased my hookup ratio for sure.:uhuh: To clarify I make them both ways still......each with a designed purpose.

Thanks for sharing that Larry. I have built plugs in the past so I know the work that goes into them but sometimes I forget so thanks for the reminder. Great job on the video - very nice. Love my Preys, favorite plug in my bag! :uhuh:

Very cool. Was the first shaping effort on the lathe by hand of were you following a jig? Looked like by hand.

A pure pleasure to watch. As you made them I thought 3 things. 1, I need some of those. 2, I was hoping the video would end with a demonstration of catching. 3, Really looking forward to next season on the canal.
Again, knockout editing.

I learned a great deal from that video
especially how the length of the untrimmed
plug allows the jigs to be so precise for boring

top shelf all the way

Larry,

Excellent job, kudos to you for sharing, there are those in the custom plug business who wouldn't be so generous, my hat's off to you for that. I'm curious what editing software you are using.
