no error messages?

might be time to a system restore to a previous time
when your system worked just fine

How are you trying to open them? Are you using a email client for example Outlook or are you going to a website logging in then trying to see the attachments?

Down load chrome, and see if it works there. FYI system restores and IE issues will.not work 99% of the time as IE is part of explorer.exe. i am not a fan of system restores ever.

Not sure about this,,, stick the windows install disk in and see if you can do a "install" "repair" of IE from it
Or stay away from sites that can screw your computer up. :devil2:

What type of file are you trying to open? and what application is it trying to use to open the file? that application might need to be re-installed.

If IE is crashing..try to reset it.
Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab>Reset
Also, if you are using IE11..been having issues with it...try uninstalling it from Windows Updates...Try IE10
