View Full Version : Big Darter, round 2
Sgt Striper 04-04-2014, 09:55 AM Gave this one a try, Upsized one of George's Pichney darters to 8.5" in AYC. Weighed out at just under 4 oz. Gave it a swim yesterday and not too bad,did not roll out but went deep. Going to try again with a little weight just forward of rear belly hook and see how that works.

Swimmer 04-04-2014, 11:16 AM Love that Sgt.........I just made some Pickney's from a sample provided by PM. My master isn't quite what I would like, but after turning sanding brings it all together. Like your longer dartah. May make one similar.

numbskull 04-04-2014, 06:28 PM That thing is nasty.
How does it float?
Slightly tail down with the plane level and a bit above the water is a good place to start.
Moving the line tie forward (although where you have it looks good to me) and lower also helps reduce the dig a bit.
numbskull 04-04-2014, 07:55 PM I call this one the "Irish Darter".
ProfessorM 04-04-2014, 08:00 PM that's a low blow
Sgt Striper 04-04-2014, 08:16 PM Been waiting to see some Darters from you Paul. George it sits level, noses down on retrieve and goes to about 4-5'. Figured about .5 oz. in front of rear belly hook might give it more swing.

4.25 oz. a little too big for Paul to handle. The weight added got it to float with the plane level and worked out great, Thanks G
stripermaineiac 04-13-2014, 07:18 AM Got a question for those who make good darters. I 'm a darter user. got loads of them. A couple of you are wizards at it.Could one of you teach some that produce them how important it is to center the eye and it;s placement for the darters to swim right.I sent several back this winter as the eye was either too for back or from side to side-right or left so the darter would just keep spinning or track sideways till it hung up in the rocks. Georgr n Paul make some sweet stuff an got it down. I'm looking at 2 right now that I got at the show that the eyes are 0ver 1/8 inch apart. Nice lookin paint job but the eyes are gonna cauce an issue.
