Hi Everyone,
Been fishing the Salmon River for many, many, years but I've never been to the river mouth at Lake Ontario. Going up next week for to try for some steelhead but I'd like to cast for some brown trout near the lake. Question: Are the jetties at the mouth of the river accessable to shore fishermen? Thanks for any advice.

Dennis I have fished the jetty accessed from Brennan beach campgrounds. We stayed there for a week in July for a few years. Smallies at the base of jetty. There is also a ramp on the road leading to camp grounds at the Salmon River. Trout?? check in with the local B&T. We as a family enjoyed the area.

Dennis access as the mouth of the Salmon River is limited at best.
Good fishing spring and fall if you can find access. Even better just to the south in Selkirk Shore State Park, you have a pier with a nice flat top and the mouth of Grindstone Creek. Have take browns, steelhead and lakers from shore in the spring and fall here. Casting floating spawn sacks with a slip weight and cast spoon both work here. Plenty of parking right next to the beach and pier. No charge early in the season to get into the park. Hope this helps, good luck.

Selkirk pier or take the run over to oswego and hit the jetty

The jetty;s at the mouth of Oswego Harbor have a habit of being washed over. Several boats have landed on the jetty. Be careful.

Dennis the three places to try are the mouth of grindstone creek, the mouth of the little salmon river towards Mexico and the mouth of catfish creek all can be found on any delorme map

Dennis, another good spot are the two piers at the end of Little Sodus bay. (Likely a 25 minute ride from Pulaski). The east side is a state park, with good shoreline access, and the trout sit along the pier, and just inside it on the bay too. Warm water from a north/northeast wind traps water on the main lake in a corner by the east Pier. The other side is good too.Friend of mine got one there 22lbs years ago. I have had good luck there and along that shoreline. Also the outlet from the boat launch on the little salmon river. Lots of good access. Used to live near there.

Postponed our trip up - Salmon River is basically in flood stage. There had been 4 feet of snowpack on Tug Hill and with 80 degree weather and heavy rain it had to happen. Until next time - thanks for all the advice.
