Anyone fishing the hogy original with that twist in front hook rig? Where the single hook is in front of the bait. Seems you would miss alot of hits. Looking for some feedback. The action seems awesome with no maerial in the plastic.

If you are referring to the screw-in circle hook I had a friend bring them onto the boat one time and he was out caught about 5:1 ratio when I was using a standard offset hook...mind you this was early season and mostly shorts were around...tough to have an 18-20" schoolie engulf a whole 10" rubber to get at a circle hook in front of the bait... he had a lot of tail grabs as I recall

I tend to stick with the single barbarian unweighted jighead (10/0) for the 10" as opposed to the tandem rig

I have fished them texas style with owner offset hooks and some
with the weights/twist.

Love the action...and caught plenty of fish that way.

Then one day I was fishing them in a spot and kept on getting
takes and when I would set the hook... the drag would slip and the
hook would pop. On the third attempt I tightened the drag down
all the way. Again hook up....set the hook and the fish took off. I
set the hook again. This was a big fish.....taking line like I had no
drag at all.

After ten seconds I was off again. The rig came back intact with
the hogy nearly in perfect shape...even swimming correctly. What I
think happened was that I had a big fish and those wire hooks,
though sharp, could not bury into the mouth of the fish....that the
wire may have been flexing or the plastic was in the way of making
a clean set.

As much as I love fishing them texas... I will only fish them with a
single straight J hook from now on. I tried the other day to get a
baggs leadhead into them but as you know the plastic on them is
only wide enough to accept a hook shank.

I think the OP is referring to the swimbait hooks that Hogy has that have a screw in to the top of the bait. To me, they are the best rigging method for soft plastics. I fish the 10" and 14" this way with one hook and if I miss a fish I know 9 out of ten times it was a smaller fish nibbling at the tail.

i have use that Swim bait style hook with the screw eye with no success. Maybe just me as i am not a soft plastics person, but i see the potential it has in the way the bait swims.

This is what I'm referring to. Fish has to hit the head or engulf the whole thing to set the hook. Curious of hook up ratio
