So last week I found out that my dad, only 58 years old (59 this Friday) has be diagnosed with stage 3c (out of 4) rectal cancer. This is all a big shock to us and completely unexpected.

He was having some issues and finally went and saw the doctor.

They did the entire test and told him, to call back in 3 days, well 3 days turned into 5 then 9, with no call back or info.

He went to a second doctor, who immediately did the entire test again, blood work, MRI, CAT scan, etc, and we found out early last week.

It’s pretty far advanced and he has a bunch of doctors appointments lined up for this week, and looks like he will be starting treatment as soon as the second week of May.

I think we are all in shock still and he’s in good spirits for now, but we’ll see how the treatments go and how his body responds to them. We’ve been out fishing a couple times since the news and I cherish all the time we have together right now.

My dad is a calm guy, very laid back and doesn’t let much get to him, but for the first time in my life I can see he’s anxious and worried.

Damn , sorry to hear that.

My thoughts and prayers are with your father. Only 3 short years ago at 53 I was in the same situation plus some mega-surgeries, and I know how scared and anxious it can make you feel. I think they've made advances in the treatment in recent years, less invasive, less toxic. I'm very hopeful and sincerely hope you'll stand by him in his treatments, believe me it means alot to have someone there for that part of the journey. Best of luck.

My heartfelt prayers for you and your family... I went through this with my mother, also at age 58. Just be there for your father, be strong, and have faith. Your father will draw from your strength, so stay positive. I will continue to pray for you guys daily my friend.

Prays sent!!

I am on the Cancer watch also, they did a colonosopy on me and found a 4"x2" mass! the bi op and blood work says no cancer, but the doc says we have to wait till it comes out on May 29th to be sure?
So I can a little. all this and I am waitting for a kiddney transplant also, but if its cancer I will be disquafyed for 5 years!

My dad is still in high spirits, suppose to try and fish on sunday for his b day.

Looking like he'll start treatment late next week, if everything goes as planned, they are trying to be aggresive as can be.

Hes got a good team of doctors and people looking after him.

That really stinks. I had 2 relatives and a dear friend diagnosed with cancer in the recent past. Hang in there and provide dad with moral support. Thoughts and prayers.

We've been schoolie fishing almost every day, has been epic too.

He starts treatment on the 13th of May, and had already started taking 8 giant horse pills a day

lots of prayers to your dad and your entire family Chris. This is a tough thing to go through. My dad wad diagnosed with brain cancer at a young age and it was a lot of work for all of us....but well worth the effort. Stay strong brother, you have a great family of guy here to help in any way we can.
