I bumped into Rick Hern a few times at the canal over the past few days and he asked me why I hadn't posted any early season pics. Mainly because there really hasn't been any great highlights. The CT River run out in MA this year was pretty unremarkable. They came in late, left early, and were for the most part uncooperative. The average fish for me was around 15# and I think I broke the 20# mark twice. As mentioned above, I hit the canal a few times (nothing to write home about). I had my yearly trip out to Race Point that started slow, then picked up in the middle of the week big time and then fizzled out again. I hit a few spots in Eastern CT and slung some eels on my buddies Mckenzie Drifter (that thing was cool as hell!) And did a little fresh water fishing for LMB in the pond behind my house. Anyway I got a few pictures to document the year so far that I thought I would share. Disclaimer: I did keep two fish this year that are in this compilation of photos (however I saved two as well that is also captured on Cell phone pic) I hope you enjoy.

Here is my first fish of the year in the CT River, and yes it is a major spot burn. There was a decent herring run this year and the fish were pretty fat if you could find them.

I slung some eels from that Mckenzie drifter in CT at some islands at night and landed a few OK fish. That was fun and have a few more trips planned. Fishing from that thing made me feel like I was in that Swamp People show.

The last week of June into the first week of July, I worked my way out to Race PT by way of the canal. I managed to jig up a few decent fish. When the tide turned an eddy set up and I noticed a fish come floating by me belly up. He looked short and I thought it was a tough release. Well, he got stuck in the eddy and as It swirled by, I saw there was still a bit of life in the fish. The next pass, I noticed a large tail sticking out of it's mouth. Eventually, they came close enough to me so I could grab them. After a quick surgery, they both swam away slightly scathed.

I made it out to Race Point the next day. As many know that was where the majority of fish were being targeted during the beginning of commercial season. I thought I was going to sleigh them in the kayak. Well, when I got there, I found out they had moved on. Word spread, and by Monday, it was a ghost town on the outer Cape as far as fish and fisherman. Tuesday, they opened up a bit more beach. When I headed over the dune, in the afternoon, I was pleased to see acres of nice bass blitzing on top totally unmolested accept for one boat. I was granted one hour by the wife and the baby, and had them literally bouncing off of the yak. The next morning they even came into shore. It was like the good ole days. Fish blitzin in the wash. The nice thing was it was only me and two other guys. Oh yeah, no seals.

I got a pass to go out to the canal two out of the last three days. I didn't get any fish, but got to see Rick Hern pull out a top water 30#. I also got some good tips (thanks Rick!) and got to see Milo to boot. I wish I got a few pics but I didn't. Well, I have a few more trips planned out to the salt before the Fall roles around. Till then I am going to play with these LMB that are behind my house. If you have a chance, do a search on the Chuck Woolery Moto Chug (I'm not kidding) and fish them at night. I hope you enjoyed.

Nice fishing. However, fatherhood has done nothing for your looks. I really question your poor wife's taste in men......

Love ya Mikey!

He probably didn't care that you haven't posted any fish pics. It was more about posting pics of your handsome face! Nice to see a few!

Sorry to hijack, but I wanted to tell the tale that the rest of us Bombas had from June 7th to the 14th.

#^&#^&#^&#^&y and I got in on the Race Point debacle really before anyone started showing up out there; we had two days with full on 20-40 pound fish on top where it was pretty much us and five other boats.

That all changed after the weekend of the 7th and 8th.

We went back out two more times in the boat and still crushed them, even though everybody and their brother was lined up jigging for them on the dropoff.

I lost an easy 30 pounder at the boat that broke my split rings on a Sebile. It may have been bigger.

One day was so insane that #^&#^&#^&#^&y and I lost $1400 in gear. No lie. The good lord giveth and the good lord taketh away.

I got #^&#^&#^&#^&y to take one picture of me with a small keeper. We were too busy fishing to take any other pics.

One day I for fun I was weighing all of the fish before we put them back. They were all 19-22#.

OK, that's it for me. I'm glad Mikey did well, though. I usually let him do the talking for me about fishing (I usually tell people I don't catch fish when they ask).

Hehehe.

Good Job Mikey!
Love your brother (and dad).
