View Full Version : Havahart Trapped Skunk PRBuzz 07-23-2014, 06:00 AM Any good suggestions on how to release without getting sprayed? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device beamie 07-23-2014, 06:20 AM Put a blanket over it Phil. You can still grab the handle and open the door, put in woods and run.......... PRBuzz 07-23-2014, 06:21 AM Watching youTube now! haha they make it seem so easy PaulS 07-23-2014, 06:52 AM I was going to ask you to film it for us. Good luck. PRBuzz 07-23-2014, 06:58 AM I guess if you don't want to know what is living under your deck, you shouldn't set traps! Let a baby possum go yesterday and today baby skunk. Used my harpoon pole to get the trap out from under flowers, placed a large towel over trap, & moved trap to release point way back in property. Next step is the fun one: open & prop door then RUN! JohnR 07-23-2014, 07:16 AM , & moved trap to release point way back in property. So let me get this straight. You pi$$ it off then release it in your yard? :rotf2: ProfessorM 07-23-2014, 07:19 AM Throw the whole thing in a pond wearing a hazmat suit Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device saltyric 07-23-2014, 07:22 AM Ohh man, thats one of my fears!!! I have a ground hog problem and have been trying to trap them. I put a trail cam out just to see whats going on........sure enough a skunk wondering around near the trap..... The blanket thing seems to be the right idea. saltyric 07-23-2014, 07:24 AM by the way, i put a trail cam out in my back yard just to see whats around.....skunk, possum, raccoon, rabbit, turkey, ground hog, and a fox.....and I dont really too close to the woods! PRBuzz 07-23-2014, 07:29 AM While leaving towel in place, just reached over and opened door. Tried to use an S-hook to hold open as seen in a video but no go. Found a piece of cinder block that was about the right height, reopened door and placed block to hold door open. Moved WAY back and the the little sucker walked right out, no spraying. Works the same way covering the eyes on a fish to keep it calm. Use marshmallows for skunk bait. I have never done a live release... Always gave the old float test first..... Make sure you have enough water depth. My brother didn't.... Glad I missed that one. Turned into a real chitshow. Rockport24 07-23-2014, 02:45 PM get a pellet gun and put it out of it's misery - seems easier than the cement shoes, no? steve1874 07-23-2014, 02:56 PM Teriyaki spicy And then u eat it..:.:: Fresh Newport jerky Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Guppy 07-23-2014, 04:40 PM too messy and not in my neighborhood! Take a large blue tarp with a hole in the center. Use a paint pole extention, 12'er and pick up the trap and drop it in a barrell filled with watet. It might spray, might not. Smell will go away in a few days if it does spray. Skunk will perish quietly. Take dead skunk out of water and into plastic bag, then place in trash. Cool Beans 07-24-2014, 12:33 PM Common belief is that to keep a "critter" from returning to a nest/home they are sued to, they should be released at least 5 miles away. Espeically baby or young ones, they will go right back under your house where it was likely born and raised. I like the idea of skinning it and making a cool skunk hat. Rockport24 07-24-2014, 02:22 PM A friend of mine who grew up in texas said they knew someone who had a de-skunked skunk as a pet! WTF? Matt D 07-25-2014, 08:41 AM A friend of mine who grew up in texas said they knew someone who had a de-skunked skunk as a pet! WTF? My mother had one 45 years ago. I don't remember it but I've seen pictures. She also had a raccoon for a pet. If you don't want to have one end up in your Havaheart, don't leave it set after dark. I'd guess 75% of the time that's what you're going to catch. ThrowingTimber 07-25-2014, 08:44 AM rws 34 Pete F. 07-25-2014, 09:55 PM Wait till dark, pick up by tail. Flag down a car, open rear door and toss in. I was told that happened many years ago, the skunk tosser ended up buying a stinky car. thefishingfreak 07-26-2014, 09:07 PM Just toss the whole contraption Over the fence Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device PRBuzz 07-27-2014, 07:10 AM Just toss the whole contraption Over the fence Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device I wish! :rotf2: Might have to reset trap, can I bring the whole contraption on the Bucket to dispose of? :biglaugh: PRBuzz 07-29-2014, 06:16 AM Well as many of you might have expected, it came back and this time he has failed the tryout for the steel cage diving team! :) Mike P 07-29-2014, 12:52 PM A friend of mine who grew up in texas said they knew someone who had a de-skunked skunk as a pet! WTF? They actually make pretty good pets. I've known a few people who had one. Of course, without that scent gland, they're pretty much defenseless, so you have to make sure they don't get out loose. Rockport24 07-29-2014, 01:05 PM Oh man, can you imagine walking into someone's house and seeing a skunk just walking around? :rotflmao: OLD GOAT 07-29-2014, 01:14 PM Back in the day there were two skunkers. One worked for N. A. Nickerson over in Barnstable on 6A. T he other worked for a different N.A.Nickerson in North Eastham.. They both trapped skunks for the fur. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!!! PRBuzz 08-02-2014, 09:45 AM Well skunk #2 has also failed to qualify for the steel cage diving team! Wondering how many more under the deck....:fury::smash::fury::smash: Jenn 08-03-2014, 08:06 AM Oh man, can you imagine walking into someone's house and seeing a skunk just walking around? :rotflmao: Actually, yes! Girl I was friends with in high school invited me over for the first time. Well I had to tinkle when I got there and as I am sitting there defenseless as a skunk wanders out of some hidden corner of the bathroom and brushes up against me like a flippin cat......after a minute I hollered to her from my "prison" and THEN she proceeds to fill me in and let me know her mother had a pet skunk and that it was deskunked......classic case of "that information would have been nice to know 5 minutes ago"! Raven 08-03-2014, 08:15 AM long time ago i snuck outside to watch a skunk up close and personal and so i went into ninja mode so as to not startle it (period) and sat down on this cement bench outside the cottage. I sat there for 20 minutes very still and extremely quiet. After awhile my Ass was starting to ache and i looked to the right to sneak away and son of a bitch there's another friggan skunk 5 feet from me so now I'm stuck there between two of them not daring to move. 45 minutes later they finally were working together on an old garbage pail fliptop where one would stand on the lid handle to open it while the other one grabbed something out of the pail quick-like and i was able to hightail outta there without getting sprayed. PRBuzz 08-03-2014, 05:10 PM Couple years back I had one walk right through my legs without getting sprayed! Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Slipknot 08-03-2014, 05:21 PM My brother goes camping aLOT and has this skunk skin he drapes over a remote controlled car, so he waits til dusk while unsuspecting people come walking by the campsites and drives it out at them to freak them out.
