View Full Version : What are the chances??
rickhern 07-24-2014, 09:53 PM So I am parked at half way gate the other morning, come back to find my inside front hubcap missing from my suburban. It,s the side facing the woods. I had just done brakes on it and I know it was on there good. I tell the guys I am fishing with that someone must have jacked it and they point to the newer model suburban parked behind me and ask if its like those. Initially I say NO, his hubcaps say GMC, mine have no lettering. But, on closer inspection, one of his is exactly like mine, no lettering. Hmmmmm.......I suppose mine could have fallen out, but I have 292,000 on the truck and that has never happened before.
What would you do?
Newer suburban has some distinguishing features that I will not mention yet, but the story gets more interesting.

WESTPORTMAFIA 07-24-2014, 11:04 PM Let's be serious. If someone stole your hubcap they would have left the scene.

bloocrab 07-25-2014, 05:27 AM .....What would you do?....
I would take a real good look at his odd-ball hub-cap. Chances are, if it came off your truck and on to his...you should be able to tell. There would be fresh markings on it (finger-prints on residual break-dust/dirt build-up)...smudges from being put on his wheel, or fresh markings from being "tapped" back on...if all of his hubcaps appeared to be recently wiped down, I'd assume he did it and tried to cover his tracks.
But If one of his matched yours exactly...:smash:??? Sure, he could probably pry it off without leaving marks...but unless he had a rubber mallet and strategically hit it....you'd know or should know.
What would I do once convinced?? Dunno, I'm not one to say "I wouldla done this or I woulda done that"...once the switch flips in my head, it's out of my hands and control.
Good Luck Rick. Easier said than done, but let cooler heads prevail :devil2:

There were jerky wrappings all around both wheel-wells?? :jump1:
If it was me,I would look real close at it and If I could confirm it was mine, I'd wait for who ever owned that vehicle and confront them.

In fact there were fresh marks where it had been pried off and it did match mine exactly.
Guppy 07-25-2014, 06:41 AM Would have been interesting to take it , leave note; "took my hub back and leave your contact info with it!
See what's shaking :uhuh:
nightfighter 07-25-2014, 06:43 AM Rick, take yours back and give him my info as I can sell him these three center caps.... and three 16" alloys if he wants too!

rickhern 07-25-2014, 06:50 AM So as luck would have it, I am back down there yesterday and I find an exact match for mine in roughly the same place. I guess maybe it did fall off.
Then I get home last night and find that my left rear hub is missing.
Ordered a new one last night.
He obviously needs it more than me. Karma sure can be a vindictive bitch, wouldn't want to be him.
Cool Beans 07-25-2014, 06:54 AM Damn! in order to get revenge you'd have to find a new spot to fish LOL.
I know I would take mine back, eel his antenna and pull 2 valve stems from 2 of his tires.
Then find a new spot to fish.
But then he would likely eventually come accross your rig later and do somethign worse to you, so maybe its best to let Karma get him.
So what if fellow S-B'ers all watch for a suburban with 3 GMC caps and one older one with no lettering and perhaps assist Karma in its search to find him.
:D
Salvage yard has lots of suburbans.. I sold my POS to Pick and Pull a few months ago 1997 had 4 good caps no lettering. (rear end seized on mine and had more rust then the wreck of the titanic.
JohnR 07-25-2014, 08:05 AM Don't know how easy / hard they are to get off on the Chevy but the Ford were on good, needing low yield explosives to come undone.
Cool Beans 07-25-2014, 08:57 AM can use anythign from a house key to a fish hook or even a strong fingernail to pop off the ones on most suburbans. pretty easy.
Swimmer 07-25-2014, 09:59 AM Maybe someone was screwing with both of you, could be.

I suppose anything is possible, which is why I gave no information on the other vehicle. Disapointing to find out who it belongs to. We will have a talk someday soon.

My karma is just fine. In fact the other day there was a guy fishing with us that was way undergunned. We were all doing pretty well but they wanted big stuff. I offered him the use of my lami/Z many times before he accepted. Didn't get any but showed hiim the pluggage and sent him to the shop. He is from texas, up here visiting. Met up with him the next day and he took a 27# next to me and gave us the fish. Yup, Karma is my friend.

No way I would get physical over a hubcap. No worries.

Rick, take your other three caps off and write your initials on the backside with permanent marker and put them back on for future identification purposes. Maybe I should go do that to mine
good luck with your quest

So you're suggesting that if a hubcap goes missing, all he has to do is pull other people's hubcaps off and check to see if it says RH on the inside? That seems like a lot of work, not to mention a good way to get your ass beat when someone shows up and sees you with their hubcap in your hand.

ProfessorM 07-26-2014, 06:09 AM it's a hub cap, I'd let it go. Not saying the person responsible is a nice person, a scumbag, but not worth a confrontation.
massbassman 07-26-2014, 07:18 AM I agree, its not worth something bad happening if you confront them. But I should talk... 3 weeks ago, I'm suiting up at my spot in Newport at 2 am when I hear this small car with a bad muffler slowing down and pulling in. This real sketchy looking dude with the hat turned sideways and his friends, drives by real slow, eyeballing me the whole way. They go up a ways until I cant see them anymore, but dont come back out. I get finished getting dressed and am still thinking these guys are waiting me out. I waited a couple of more minutes, before I locked up and headed down to my spot. I always park my truck so I have a good vantage point from where I fish, as Ive heard of people getting broke into, but never a problem. After about 45 minutes, I hear the sound of their muffler coming out, but no lights on. I started watching my truck, but could only barely see it, as it was a moonless night. Sure enough I see a small penlight come on, and start looking in my windows. I start heading back across the rocks as quick as I can, as fast as you can with Korkers, and make it up the hill to the road. The plugs in my bag were making noise as I ran toward my truck with my light off. I yelled to get the f#*! away from my truck, and he flashed his light real quick on me before jumping back in the car and screwing out of there. I flicked on my light to see their plate, but they were too far away. I could make out a total of 3 of them in the car. I did call the cops and gave them a description, but never heard anything. Not that I would cause they didn't steal anything. You gotta just hope these scumbags will get their own someday and get busted. It pisses you off and you react, but it wasn't until the ride home I thought about what could have happened if they decided to come after me. It could have been ugly. It's hard to not do something though when someone messes with your stuff.

Slipknot 07-26-2014, 11:16 AM I never suggested anything like checking others hubcaps. Just saying write your name on your property. If the other suspect agrees to remove to check, it's up to them. Like Paul said, it's just a hubcap for crying out loud

Not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in China...
Time to clear the benches, got hub-cap?....
Cool Beans 07-27-2014, 10:02 AM Drill a tiny hole in your hubcaps. Can't really see it unless you know it's there. Would be very easy to prove he took it. But then you're right back to the confrontation that you don't wanna have.
As for me, I think I would take mine back, along with his other 3 and place his 3 in the trail where he would find them on his way out.
If of course they were marked so you knew for sure he had taken yours.
then wait for the :fence: and :fight: to start
and also be scared to leave your truck parked anywhere thinking now he's gonna get even
:eyes:

Agreed, ...when last rick and I spoke, I too...suggested that cooler heads should prevail. Just sux if it was the vehicle parked near his,,,the fool should have driven away. Would have left rick thinking it simply fell off.
Someone messing with my family and/or personal property has always been a hot ticket item for me. I don't handle that well
rick, you're not family but I still feel for ya
rphud 07-27-2014, 02:15 PM On the ice you pretty much see what everybody brings to the fight, on the street you never know. Plenty of road rage stories where you flip off the wrong guy driving, and bullets start to fly. Discretion is most often the better part of valor, but there are limits.
fcap60 07-27-2014, 05:31 PM I think ProfessorM gives sound advise. I agree
rickhern 07-27-2014, 08:54 PM LMAO I get a text at 6:03 this am from the owner of the vehicle in question accusing me of stealing his hubcaps. Best defense is a good offense I guess.
Gonna let this go. Wish I could say more guys, but please respect this and let it go.
redcrbbr 07-27-2014, 08:59 PM rick, my burb is heading to the boneyard, your more than welcome to the caps. it is older than yours 1994
rickhern 07-27-2014, 09:02 PM Thanks Bob, already ordered one. Then again, I suppose having an extra or 2 wouldnt hurt. Give you a riggie for them.
