View Full Version : Has TV gone off the deep end
Got Stripers 08-15-2014, 07:20 AM Surfing last night to try to find anything decent to watched and come across dating naked......are you f'g kidding me. I just shake my head at all the crap on TV and wonder how in the hell can there possibly be a market for some of this mindless dribble. Maybe I'm old school, but I'd sit and watch One Flew Over The Cucko's Nest until I knew (not that I don't already) every line by heart, than tune into some of these shows.
piemma 08-15-2014, 07:52 AM I agree. Naked and afraid, programs about little people, not kids but midgets. More cooking shows than you can count.
I watch the news, sports and the Weather Channel. Maybe the History Channel and whatever channel Wicked Tuna is on. That's it. The rest of TV is a waste of my time. I'd rather sleep.
ThrowingTimber 08-15-2014, 07:58 AM Its summer da'phucks a tv?

i do find naked and afraid kind of amusing and informative tho.
MAKAI 08-15-2014, 09:57 AM Honey boo boo....are you fn kidding me ?
Talk about people that should just be put down !
Back to books I went, haven't looked back.
Only time the TV is on it's football and hockey.

Rockport24 08-15-2014, 11:01 AM I've never seen dating naked, but I've seen naked and afraid and it's awesome! C'mon guys!
Still - I must be a old white guy in training as well, because I mostly agree with you grumpy bastages!
Ok next time there is a lightening storm on Cutty - we are all watching dating naked!
FishermanTim 08-15-2014, 11:07 AM We as a society, have allowed our entertainment to dictate what we watch instead of us dictate what they will show.
I do not watch anything on tv except sports, old westerns, old "family shows", some of what the History Channel considers "history-related", some of the antique shows, a couple of comedies and of course sports.
If I watch a murder mystery, it's an old one.
If I watch a crime drama, it's old as well.
Heck, I even look for old classic movies when I have the time to watch it.
As for any of these celebriality / trainwreck /tiny people / baby's momma-daddy tramp shows / glorified medical abnormality shows / basic insult-my-intelligence shows, they can all just go to hell!
I want to be entertained, to be challenged by wisdom and knowledge, not insulted by vulgarity and violence for cash and immorality for fame's sake (ie. kardashians, linsay lohen, anyone on E and MTV).
We are truly doomed as a species if our intelligence is dictated by the lowest IQs in the world, ie... the entertainment industry!!!

spinncognito 08-15-2014, 11:12 AM So, if they came up with a new reality show- "Naked and Fishing" where they paired you up with a random naked (hot) girl to hit the surf (or Canal), would you sign up? Would you watch?

Lack of TV coverage...UUUUUUU RRRRRRR kidding.......:) all day now its about him having early stage of Parkinson's....Yes, he was an icon of comedy...enough is enough
FishermanTim 08-15-2014, 11:22 AM Don't get me started on what today's news stations consider news.
Heck, for that matter, what the news anchors consider lead stories and how they cover (and re-cover, and re-re-cover them over and over and over again)!!!
Raven 08-15-2014, 11:28 AM they interviewed these homesteader girls in ALASKA
they said :
What's a SELFIE?
they had no idea......... so it depends upon exposure.
JohnR 08-15-2014, 11:33 AM So, if they came up with a new reality show- "Naked and Fishing" where they paired you up with a random naked (hot) girl to hit the surf (or Canal), would you sign up? Would you watch?
:bshake:
You can do that now - go fishing with Clammer - well, 2 out of three things anyway.
Lack of TV coverage...UUUUUUU RRRRRRR kidding.......:) all day now its about him having early stage of Parkinson's....Yes, he was an icon of comedy...enough is enough
I think that was Sarcasm
Mike P 08-15-2014, 11:44 AM Unfortunately, the History Channel is now more reality dreck than real history, too. :(
History International, if your system offers it, is somewhat better.

With all the cap going on in the world this is what we will see 24/7 for another month.
I liked Robin Williams as much as anyone else but the guy didn't pass away like most news channels try to put it. He killed himself. His choice.
Go on fb and read all the people saying how sad they are he's dead.
Christ. How many people are going to kill themselves because they are depressed that he killed himself.

i haven't owned a TV in years. What a waste of time to sit on your ass and stare at a box with a window on it that tells youth buy stuff you don't need and provides you with imaginary friends.
Got Stripers 08-15-2014, 12:53 PM If I can't find American Pickers, then a good fallback lately is buying the beach, as with retirement around the corner its fun to see what property on or near the beach and some good fishing is going for.
Even the movies they re-run are re-runs that were on last week, last month, last year and they are all chick flics. I have a strong sensitive side, I cried the last time I saw clammer beat the crap out of a squeaky reel, but come on put something else on for crying out loud.
I don't mind a good sci-fi flic once in a while, but snakes on planes, or giant crocodiles chomping down yummy prom dates doesn't cut it. Give me Blade Runner or even the original Planet of the Apes and I'm in; sorry watching William Shatner rescue humpback whales isn't good sci-fi.
Dribble, dribble, mindless dribble.
JFigliuolo 08-15-2014, 01:47 PM ... provides you with imaginary friends.
I like my imaginary friends....

piemma 08-15-2014, 03:19 PM The first time Clammer was on my boat he dropped his shorts and Mooned me, he-who-cannot-be-mentioned and everybody at Oakland Beach.

curmudgeons in training.

If you want real history, dig into wikipedia. Got lost in it reading about the cultures of the middle east and what that whole thing's about and from there into ancient china. It's a deep rabbit hole with lots of links.
I agree. Naked and afraid, programs about little people, not kids but midgets. More cooking shows than you can count.
So just to clarify Naked and afraid is not the same as naked dating....I too (unfortunately) stumbled across naked dating just the other day and I felt my own IQ lower just for the mere fact that I watched for an entire 10 minutes. I was in awe than anyone could actually find a naked date anything other than insanely awkward and then it hit me how ridiculous it was that they made a show about it and I wasted 10 minutes of my life watching it!
Liv2Fish 08-15-2014, 08:49 PM I did watch one episode of naked dating - late night, couldn't sleep and nothing on. Fist date was some dork and a decent looking chick and their date was wake boarding. He went first and couldn't for save his life get up on the board. Spent most of the first date head down with ass and nuts out of the water. Her face was priceless. Her turn, she popped right up and did some tricks on the wake. I did laugh my ass of at him struggling like a complete idiot. Haven't tuned in since but did have a good laugh at the stupidity.
chris L 08-16-2014, 09:40 AM I've never seen dating naked
Ok next time there is a lightening storm on Cutty - we are all watching dating naked!
I would rather take my chances that I pissed God and mothet nature off too many times and get struck down . it still better than some of the crap on tv
rphud 08-17-2014, 08:29 AM Cutty don't get that channel. Only Gilligan's Island and The Andy Griffith Show.
Who you callin' "proletariat"?!??!?
justplugit 08-17-2014, 11:39 AM The perfect example of the dumbing of America.......
That about says it all, NF.
rphud 08-17-2014, 02:38 PM Likely already dumb if they are watching. Not helping, but a symptom me thinks.
Mr. Sandman 08-18-2014, 03:25 AM After my last kid leaves for college I am thinking of just dropping all but the basic TV and keeping the ruku box. I can can live without 90% of TV programming. IMO we are moving to a nextflix like on-demand for all tv eventually.
Pete F. 08-18-2014, 05:35 AM I've never seen dating naked, but I've seen naked and afraid and it's awesome! C'mon guys!

One of the great things about CH is no TV, I hope it is still true.
Guppy 08-18-2014, 10:07 AM Maybe they'll have a fishing naked,,, watch out for those hooks boys :uhuh::devil2:
Mr. Sandman 08-18-2014, 12:01 PM the new reality show..."Naked tuna fishing aboard the Fishbucket"
I can see it now...then again...maybe you don't want to:shocked::eek::yak4:
;)
Rockport24 08-18-2014, 01:55 PM One of the great things about CH is no TV, I hope it is still true.
well that's what's funny - there is only one tv in the main room there, so we would all need to "agree" on what the watch :D
FishermanTim 08-19-2014, 10:43 AM Whatsamatter wit you? You don't like titties? :)
Oh, I likes 'em....I likes 'em a hole bunch!
Unfortunately the head attached to them is usually unbearable!
Kind of like putting a Wallmart reel on an expensive rod.
Jimbo 08-19-2014, 04:39 PM I just returned from a week and a half at the family compound in West Dennis. My house is the oldest (around 125) and least upgraded. No phone, no cable, no wireless. there isn't a three prong electrical outlet in the whole house. My brother and his daughter were out from Seattle area and going through absolute withdrawal. I said, "Hey, you guys like NatGeo? The History Channel?, American Pickers?" "Oh yea, that's cool, we like that." "Well in the front room there's a ton of National Geographic magazines from the 60's to the 80's, Yankee magazines, Life magazines there's even Boy's Life and Ranger Rick from when we were kids, as well as old books (is there anything better than the smell of a musty old book), history books, old historic novels on the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, paperback novels, romance novels for the beach crowd. There's closets full of old stuff to pull out and look at and try on or tey and figure out what something is." I didn't miss TV or my computer one bit. Couldn't contain myself when I got back to the world, but for 10 days I was E-less except for the daily update to the family to let them know I hadn't hurt myself in any way and my blood pressure had even dropped to acceptable levels (but I also attribute that to my daily swim in the soothing, healing waters of Bass River). Yea, long winded way of agreeing, "What the heck's up with TV these days?"
The Dad Fisherman 08-19-2014, 07:32 PM There's actually some great TV being made if you look for it instead of that other Dreck....
The walking dead
The bridge
Sons of anarchy
Justified
Hell on wheels
The strain
The Americans
All great shows with intelligent writing behind them.
Anybody that made the Breaking Bad journey enjoyed probably one of the best written TV shows ever.
Anything that tries to base itself in "reality" is pure crap
