View Full Version : Weekend Roundup
nightfighter 09-07-2014, 04:39 PM Hit the surf yesterday, but an hour after sunrise.... Had a 6" Pollack crush a 6" SurfAsylum Leadfoot lure..... No life so did paperwork and bids in the AC for the rest of the day.
Took some clams to an inshore ledge early and got into some good sized cod. Low worm count too! One 30" cod had a small fish skeleton, three crabs, and an almost legal lobster in its stomach. Stocking up for Portuguese fish stew over the fall/winter. Not hearing of any pick up in the striper fishing locally, so going to continue targeting cod on the boat, when I can get out.
Just thought we could start doing weekend round up threads to give a pulse of what is going on, where, without giving up the almighty "spots"
Nice productive/relaxing weekend Ross, I pretty much did the same.I went and visited my parents house did some landscraping, and chewd the fat, I fished last night and did some damage, today relaxed watch the pats tank it hard.
Then vacuum sealed some bass for the winter nothing beats a bowl of striper chowder in the dead of winter.
Slipknot 09-07-2014, 05:08 PM I tried fishing Friday night with a couple friends. The fishing was ok but the catching sucked for me. Worked around the house Sat. and today and was too tired to go out fishin last night, I guess I should have porkfrogged Bob
Ross, good for you getting some cod :btu:
BigFish 09-07-2014, 05:39 PM I have been doing alot of sweetwater kayak fishing and it has been great! The topwater bite has been awesome!!! Pats sucked bigtime today......can't wait for hockey so I don't have to sweat out every loss!!!
Rappin Mikey 09-07-2014, 07:02 PM I too did the sweetwater thing for a bit this weekend for a few hours. Couple of LMB landed and lost a nice one. Today, I did the Greenfield Fair. It was a fair affair at the fair.
jonserfish 09-07-2014, 07:46 PM marathon fishing day from boat. finished up w/ hunch back and burning leg :hs:
Liv2Fish 09-07-2014, 08:08 PM Yard work Sat, got some stuff planted that had been dying a slow death in the pots they came home in. Today did some BSB and Scupping in Bbay with the kids and in-laws. caught a big puffer fish. The kids had a blast with it in the live well. They kept poking it and laughed like hell when it blew up and floated to the top of the well.
Just good to be out there. Going to focus on BSB Fluke Tog and maybe some cod for the fall. I'm done bassin for the year.

tysdad115 09-08-2014, 10:41 AM Not fishing related but got to watch Tyler's team win a great football game yesterday vs. a good Silver Lake team, the boys fought hard and squeaked out a 22-21 victory. Last 2 minutes had back to back turnovers and a strong drive by them that came down to the final seconds.
massbassman 09-08-2014, 11:12 AM Shoulda come watch him play, instead of wasting all afternoon watching the Pat's implode!!
Congrats on the win!

Got Stripers 09-08-2014, 11:32 AM Fished Saturday for Tog, but finished the day with all the rat blues you could catch inside the bay to the east of Gooseberry point. When I first noticed the birds and all the bait, I was hoping it was Albies, but as soon as I got close it was clear they were blues. My buddy is a freshwater fly rodder, but without any heaver leader, he decided two flies was enough of a sacrifice.
Stacked a cord of wood I split last weekend, so I'm ready for another winter; hopefully not like the last one and then watched the Jekyll and Hyde Pats game. Boy it's going to be a long season if that's as good as the offensive line can protect Brady.
Rockport24 09-08-2014, 09:50 PM The striper fishing finally seems to be picking up around here as I got my first keeper in a few trips (haven't been getting out as much) and got into some fast schoolie action as well - so maybe just maybe we might have a halfway decent fall.. a lot of kayaks and boats out targeting stripers up my way too - more than I have seen since I've been up here (mid July-ish)
Funny you mention Cod Ross as the kayak guys have been loving the inshore cod action all season - this week I was out and marked a ton of fish about 40 feet down (like 100 yards off the rocks) and dropped down a jig and caught a short red cod (maybe called rock cod?) So hey, nice to have something else!
