I remember it like it was yesterday. I was salmon fishing in Maine. God Bless all who were lost and their families and friends. A good friend of mine who worked the scene came down with ailments he believed were connected to it......he passed away at 52 yo a couple of years ago.

Pretty humbling this year. We're not far from NYC. I think in past years either I was shuttling a kid or two to a sporting event or was employed at the time. I never had the opportunity to just sit and watch as the names were read off. I said humbling because I watched start to finish today. Really took me down a notch because while I may have accepted the severity and magnitude of 911, I never fully realized how many people from ours or neighboring towns or my hometown on Long Island were lost.

Cruising past commuter train lots on LI, late at night, coming home from fishing, and seeing the same cars parked in the same places for days afterwards, in an otherwise-empty lot.

That part of it I missed. At the time I never had to pass any. LIRR lots. I just remember the radio stations asking for donations of gloves and masks for the people at the scene. Seemed like it went on for months.

When it went down I was in a classified facility that made spy satellites. They shut down asap then we just pushed on. Work to do…
