I have been out there this week also fishing deep.

Big Blues and some small Bass.
I have been trolling with lead core
I was thinking I should do more 3 waying.

How are you doing it troll or chunk ??:D

First of all get rid of the lead core:smash: :smash: mono and flourcarbon is the way to go. the majority of your fish while trolling will be small, your line is not getting down deep enough. Anchor up in deep water, chum :D chum:D chum:D You are not going to get big fish if you don't chum consistantly. Only stay in an area 15 - 20 minutes if not catching you must move to another spot, DISCIPLINE; DISCIPLINE; is one of the keys to sucessfull stripe bass fishing.

It's hard to give up trolling with lead it has worked for me But I know I can do better.

Up around here it is chuming. Cape Ann; Ipswich Bay Etc: isn't like down the Cape we have plenty of bait fish We chunk fish when the live bait fish are not here. Down the Cape they are basically lure fishermen or surfcasters. You are not going to catch many fish with lures especially when 99% of the guys are fishing chunks. The stripers are keying on the chunk fishing. it is the same way with Tuna fishing up here, when the chunk fishing starts the trolling is over.

Were you out near the bouy? Should be heading out next weekend, hopefully to find some of those that you were catching. Haven't had too much luck with the big ones yet. Do you recommend herring for the chunks or something else?

was out about a mile beyond the bouy that day Today we were about a mile west of the bouy in the morning and a mile east of it in the afternoon. Kept trying to stay away from the dog fish. Too many dogs. Chunk herring is theway to go as of this writing. Everybody is chunking.

If I fish clams out there can I catch some of them dogs? I 'm taking my son out fishing and I just want to catch something. They'll get a kick if they can catch a "shark"!!!

As long as i have been fishing I've never heard of fishing clams until i joined this forum. From what I read people catch stripers. SoI can't say that they will catch stripers in deep water. We need someone to respond that has fished deep water with clams.

I'll try and get some herring when I'm up there but thats hit or miss so I'll bring some clams as back up........

The bait boats ae in this morning at the State pier and they should have bait till Saturday morning or Sunday.

Dogs are plentifull should have no problem catching them.

If you use bait and chum let your line flow with the chum You may have to let your line out to 80-100' behind the boat and your baitmight be down 10' or use a1/2-1oz barrell sinker with 4-5'flourocarb leader Tide is runnng fast around here this week.
