JohnR great sight you got here. Been lurking for awhile, taking in all sorts of info. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but Narragansett BEach has been closed for swimming yesterday and today due to sharks. The Providence Journal has a small article on it. The Life guards there said that a group of they think 6 sharks came within 50-100 feet of the shore yesterday and some were sighted again this morning. They have not identified the species yet. They said that they saw lots of Stripers and Blues off the beach and think the sharks were following the schools. Be careful out there any of you shore guys.

Town Beach in Cohasset was closed today due to sharks.
I am thinking of putting a steel leader and larger hook on the line
and go for sharks!!

I also heard about it, and not liking it. I was in the water down by the coast guard station on Sat. & Sun. morning. If they were in Gansett yesterday, where do you think they were on Sun.? :mad:

My old lady was paranoid about that same thing when we were in the water in front of the narrow river sat nite/sun morning-I told her to quit being silly-nothing will bother us!

I bet it was a school of monster Stripers;)

ill make a plug custom to who ever catches a shark from shore in mass. got to have some pics and witnesses.

Christian head to South Cape Beach and fish at night with chunks or eels, you'll catch them!

picture this, Im not really a shore man but during the tournys we have I turn into one so the last one we had down mikes I headed off with canalman redcrabber carl budsfan8 and katie well its dark I dont have a flashlight red says try chunking Im knee deep water and bam I got one on thought it was the biggest striper of the summer this thing was fighting I cant see what it is out there jumping and splashing I knew there was shark there bob just caught one moments before this Ill be the first to admit I started backing to the beach I got nervous in the dark with this fish on I was gonna be within distance to run up on the beach, it was a big shark bob came out wrestled it under his arm and took the hook out that fish thanks you bob cause that line was getting cut those dog fish I found out last summer have a spike in there tails that hurt and make you bleed lol!! I dont like them my shark from shore story!!:D

Spiny dogfish have two spikes, one on their tail and one by the dorsal fin. If you get stuck, it will get infected and hurt like hell, no matter what first aid you aply. There are also smooth dogfish, wich some people call sandsharks, that lack the spines. But those weren't dogfish in nargansett, far too big. The shdows I saw on tv had to be 6-8 feet long.

Brownies can look a LOT like doggers.........:rolleyes:

I surf/windsurf a bit over here and have seen brownies and blues up to 10' in the Cord of the Bay.

Two years ago a huge Loggerhead turtle washed up dead in the same area. Had about 10 bites that looked like Blue Shark bites out of it. Bites were probably 10-12" across.

Thankfully there are a lot of fish in sea. If not the sharks would probably take a bite out of you or me.......:eek:
