18 foot sport (Wellcraft Hull)
140 hp Suzuki
Asking $6,000
Looks clean and he promises it runs SUPER...whatever that means

Clammer 07-08-2003, 06:57 PM BLOO=========whelcraft has alwats had a good name & as far as i know the never lowered there quality, three diggers i know have 140 4-stroke if thats the engine your looking at grat the rig at that price, the only thing I,ve heard is the are a little difficult to start when real cold , but you won,t be using it then
By the time John answers you he,ll have plus & minus of everything you want to know
good luck :D
JohnR 07-08-2003, 08:31 PM I think we need to discuss this at Hooters
and look at the one in the classifieds - the 4.3V6 is a 350 with two lopped off cylinders and the Mercuiser Alpha One is pretty good outdrive and PLENTIFUL for parts... http://www.striped-bass.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8589
Clammer 07-08-2003, 09:03 PM Get him away from that s@#$:smash:
MakoMike 07-09-2003, 07:18 AM Bloo,
What year is the suzuki? 2 or 4 stroke? Do you have a suzuki dealer nearby?
JohnR 07-09-2003, 08:04 AM Clammah - I had that rig in my boat and it was pretty solid....
Bloo - if you do look for that Suzi, I'de recommend getting it checked out before purchase. I've heard a lot of good things about Scott from Viking Marine in Portsmouth and having met him he comes across as a knowlegeable & class guy. you'd definitely want him to look it over before you drop some coin...
fishsmith 07-09-2003, 08:10 AM Boathead apprentice here,
What year is the motor, is it 2 or 4 stroke?
is a trailer included?
if you like it take it for a looong test ride, shut it down, troll with it, open it up, take hard turns.
Take a look at the sellers house and car too, if they are in good shape its usually an indication the person cares for their stuff.
check for stress cracks on transome (see Vans post).
Good luck, there are lots of boats out there for 6k, I suggest looking at boats 21ft or bigger, the extra space is always used and its a better ride.
If that's a newer Suzuki 4-stroke, and the boat is in good condition it sounds like a great bargain. If it is a 4-stroke I agree with John have Scott @ Viking check it out for you. Best of luck....
bloocrab 07-09-2003, 09:52 AM Thanks for the continued comments guys. :) They are mucho appreciated.
It's a VERY clean boat. I'll be talking to the owner in the next couple of days. Going to get more details for you guys to analyze :D...Thanx a million
Striper1 07-09-2003, 04:36 PM Go for a 20 or 21 footer.
safer dryer more stable.
Got Stripers 07-10-2003, 08:22 AM Clammer, the Suzuki's will start (at least my 150 2-stroke did) fine in the cold, you just can't shift into gear:(. With my winter fishing, that became a little frustrating, so the Suzuki had to go.
Clammer 07-10-2003, 01:16 PM Yea Bob its the four strokes that start slow when cold///////
