Those are not F-15's

Those are Aggressor Squadron F5 Tiger IIs - long retired. Except for Iran.

Expect one of these - one of which crashed and the pilot was lost a couple months ago.

The blurb I heard on BZ today said these jets can fly at twice the speed of sound? That' like 1500 mph or 25 miles per second.

I can't imagine going from the tarmac at Otis to NCY in something like 8 minutes as they did on 9/11. I have a buddy who's a jet mechanic at Otis and was there that day for the scramble. He said in a blink they were gone and out of ear shot.

Saw them from my deck (Weymouth) fly over Boston about 8:40 - 8:45. 1/2 hour behind schedule. :smash:
Came in from North, looped over the city and headed out over the harbor, for the turn then came back in Westbound North of the city, then I lost sight of them.

if they stuck to the original flight plan, I figured they should have been flying over MV about 20- 30 min. after I saw them.
I'm 13 miles from the city and heard the roar - and they were going slow. Cool stuff. I hear their something like $20-25 Mil. each ??

Nothing but a bunch of BS!!!
I heard them briefly as they flew up for the "photo shoot" and when they left headed south right after.

Next time they want to advertize ANY event like this can they do us all a favor and .....DON"T!!!

I wasted a half hour of my morning hoping to see the jets flying in formation, only to spend that time looking at birds!

I wonder how "glorious" it was for the fools that waited in downtown Boston for a split-second viewing as they whissed by?

I'm surprised that the local news media didn't devote an hour of their morning (repeat) news to broadcast the event?

Now I know that my time is way more valuable than anything like this!!!

OK, gripe is over, soapbox is open for anyone else!

I agree Tim, stood out for 30 minutes waiting for them:lurk:. Only thing that kept me out was the Helo's hovering around so I nkew they were coming.
Didn't expect much, and just what I got.

I was at the intersection of Sturrow and western ave by the Doubletree hotel in Cambridge. They flew right over my head much lower than 1000 feet. They came in on a bank and were so low I could see the pilot looking around. They were silent on the approach and like holy chit loud as they passed. shook my car like the drier in the car wash. It was pretty awesome. Made me think thats the last sight some of our enemies see before being vaporized.

That's what they tell the public. It's WAY more than that.

The old A6s in Nam could do Mach 2 and that was almost 50 years ago.

Yep - F14 Tomcats

Nope - 20-25 mi8llion each in 1990 dollars for C models like the ones we are talking about. 110 mil each today for the deriviatives of the F15E Strike Eagle (bigger, more advanced)

That's what they tell the public. It's WAY more than that.

A6 might break Mach 1 in a dive and might even not break apart ;)

Shoot, I used to sit down at the maritime academy and watch them take off over Pocasset all the time, back in the 80s and 90s. Back in the 60s when Otis was active duty USAF, they'd go trans-sonic over Buzzards Bay in F-102s. We replaced a couple of cracked windows every summer.

Once you've seen a BUFF fly over the Canal at low altitude, trailing smoke from all 8 engines, puny little fighters don't really cut it. :D

Another impressive sight from childhood was dad parking the car along Route 130 on the Sandwich/Mashpee line, right at the edge of the NE/SW runway, and having those Connies with radomes pass overhead at about 100'.

110 Mil. each - wow.

Was reading the MV Times - they never made it as we know.
Copied this from the article - sounds like a BS line to me. Not enough fuel ???? - Barnes to Boston to Nantucket and back ???
Sounds like they had no time as they got off late.

From the MV Times
"Lt. Colonel Sean Halbrook told The Times that the F-15s only flew as far as Cape Cod due to time and fuel constraints. The jets took off late and were unable to rendezvous with a tanker, he said."

I guess I might take it a little bit for granted after seeing how many of you were looking forward to seeing them. I am probably <2 miles from the runway, as the crow flies. I could not really give you a "schedule" of when they fly but its often. The only time I really could tell is when they do nighttime training (that will usually be posted in local news ahead of time) but if you are in the area (exit 3, MA pike) and want to be close I suggest going for a bite to eat at http://www.pappsbarandgrill.com/ . Its really a cool place located at the private airport section. Cool view the smaller private planes and if your lucky you can also have a shot of catching a view of the f15s taking off/landing with your sammich! :) Worst case scenario while in the restaurant look out the big windows off to the left and you will likely get to see the F15s there ready and waiting. There is also an observation deck and outdoor dining (in season). I just went there a few weeks ago for the first time and could not believe I had never been before! If you go send me a message and maybe I will meet you for a brew at the bar!:cheers2:

Same here Mike, in 70's, great show from the back of the pickup with a couple

Framed a lot of houses down that way, they'd be in a bank and we could see the pilots they where so low,,,, awesome sight

Replaced a few sliders also LOL, Otis bought a bunch off sliders back then
