It wasn't as bad as the media made it out to be,I started off on a 15 story building in down town Boston @ 0630 replacing a heat exchanger,burners,inducer motor and other minor chit.after that I hit other spots on roofs in downtown but all in all spent 80% of the day on roof tops and actually enjoyed it.

I would rather work in the cold weather vs hot, you could work butt naked in the warmer weather and still sweet your nuggets off,but in the cold you can be smart and dress in layer's.

I wasn't on a roof. But was in a sealed modular building with no heat. I would go outside to get in the sun for a little warmth.
I'm with you I can deal with cold much better than 95° and high humidity.
I was on a black rubber roof laying 500 feet of 2 inch conduit at the summers hottest stretch. Drink a gallon and a half of diluted gatorade and maybe pee once. Felt like jumping off a few times !

I noticed a framing job a couple houses down from me was on hold today, guys are usually hammering away by 7am, quiet this morning!

Spent the better part of the morning bringing lumber into the house I am working on. Was not too bad as long as you are dressed for it. This after noon I was Inside but no heat. This was nothing, I worked last night and we had a small fire. Gthe fire itself wasn't bad but playing with water in those conditions sucked. Iced up within seconds.

I'm in the process of doing a finished basement, screw working outside in this crap. I did see some guys outside framing today, I laughed at them as I drove by.

All done having to work outside[retired].But took the snowshoes and dressed in layers and bushwacked through the woods opposite my house for about 3 hours.It was -21 at 9a.m. No wind so it was actually nice.Lots of deer bedded down and most stayed put if they were 75' or so away.The only drawback was ice forming in the moustache and beard.Walked back along Rangeley lake close to shore.With no wind and sun it didn't seem that cold.Like most say here.I'll take the cold over the dredded HHH.This is a dry cold.Cape Cod cold was different.

Awesome :love: I love the weather-global warming connections that come out at this time of year. They warm my innards on these chilly days.

Yeah we were supposed to be framin an addition the past 2 days but boss pussed out and we finished up some inside odds and ends. Side sheet rock job i got goin on in an unheated barn would have been tough last nite if i hadnt broken out the torpedo heater. My motto is "sun's out/ guns out" so i dont mind heat as much as frozen fingers. Except when crammed in to a blazin attic like Anne Frank doin HVAC and insulation jobs

Cutting in the woods yesterday. Under Armor, sweatshirt and an insulated jump suit. No problem. I was in a hollow so there was no wind but it was frosty at -5

Morning was cold but it warmed up well. 45 minutes at the dog park with medium wind was enough in the afternoon. Actually as warm or warmer than previous three days due to less wind.

One of the drawbacks of a dog with Husky blood. They don't get cold.

yup... spent the morning replacing a heat exchanger in the RTU that heats the waste treatment room.. spent the rest of the day and half the night .. thawing frozen pipes and repairing the burst one... no fun.... but not the doom and gloom that the media hype would convey..

I spent most of the 80s framing in Killington, Okemo and other mountains. Temp was rarely the killer unless it was below -10, but the wind would really hurt production.
Of course with global warming, its much cozier out now.

Played golf yesterday at Falmouth CC, lot's of layers and no wind made it a good day for a walk and fresh air. I'd trade the layers for an extra 20 degrees in a heartbeat.

It's kinda funny how we work in the cold to provide heat for the one's in need.

Man it was brutal framing today. Most annoying part was all the materials got delivered yesterday. In the pouring rain. And froze solid. Was a whore getting PT boards apart and then havin to scrape ice off of every board with the speed square. Annoyingly time consuming. Glad i get paid hourly

been there done that. Now I use a red dragon torch to de-ice framing materials.

Yep. We have all done that.... Cutting frozen stock sucks too. Then there is always waiting for the framing stock to dry before doing any finish. If you try to finish over lumber with a high moisture content, you get drywall popping/cracking, stairs squeaking, etc, as the lumber dries and shrinks.....

I need a little heat to keep warm in this weather. I've worked outside or in unheated space going on forty years in the trade.

At that point I tell them it will get done quicker if you leave me the f alone so I can do my job!

they don't stand over me..they just call on the cell phone every 5 minutes.. my response Is pretty much the same as yours..

This winter has been easy... no real snow storms ...yet.
The rain soaked quick frozen lumber is still a PIA to deal with.
Even after the 1/4" of ice was scraped off they were still heavy. Then slipping and sliding in the mud on ladders made for a tiring day, but it got done.
