View Full Version : 2014 Striped-Bass.com Saltheart Memorial Member of the Year Nomination Thread.
JohnR 01-25-2015, 06:27 PM Last year we lost Mike White, one of the very first members here on S-B and always helping out, offering encouragement, and on rare occasion when we needed it, being our conscience and keeping us on an even keel.
For the first time, we will have this award for a member of S-B, carrying his name. This is a worthy award.
I guess my primary influence on how we determine this member would be that this award goes to someone that gives selflessly to the community, our community.
Remember, NOMINATION, not voting part. First and Seconded.
Top nominees will be entered in a poll to determine who the S-B.com COMMUNITY feels the MEMBER of the Year.
Simple Rules:
* Member needs to be a member with (at least) regular PARTICIPATION in 2014. Should be based heavily on being a great S-Ber and and all around good fellow.
* Name only
* Member needs TWO nominations (nomination and seconded)
I'll take these names for nomination for this week and put up an anonymous poll after for voting. Member needs TWO nominations (a/k/a nomination and seconded). Winner to be announced at TFCTFN)
Previous S-B MOY Awardee and namesake of this award:
2013 Mike White A/K/A Saltheart.

BigFish 01-28-2015, 07:00 AM Mike Thomas....great guy, helpful, caring, generous with his time, not a more community oriented guy here I can think of. If more people were like Mike.......he and Barb and Felicia just wonderful people.
Sea Dangles 01-28-2015, 07:35 AM When is the last time Mike posted here on a regular basis?
I totally agree he is as solid as it gets but has he posted 10 times in the past year?
Again, I am not bashing,just asking

Certainly, you ;)
Mike Thomas....great guy, helpful, caring, generous with his time, not a more community oriented guy here I can think of. If more people were like Mike.......he and Barb and Felicia just wonderful people.
2014 S-B member of the year - not Greater Cape Cod Member of the year ;) - While he is a long term huge favorite and member here with nothing but the best to be said - participation has been low this year. I would suggest to focus on contributions to the S-B community here online. Not taking away whatsoever to what he does for us in the Angling community at large. That said, if it was a popularity only contest, Felicia would beat him anyway :tooth:
BigFish 01-28-2015, 10:24 AM I count 25 posts by Mike in 2014 so.......is this a popularity contest, a whos your buddy competiton or are you looking for someone from this site who exemplifies community participation, giving back to the members of this site (which he does) many of us depend on Mike! I do not think I have to run down the list of things Mike does for this site and has done over the years! When the chips are down or someone needs something or the call goes out for assistance.......Mike Thomas is usually the first to stand up and offer his help! Many of those I see nominated don't contribute nearly as much as many here do!!!! Carry on with your popularity contest. Sure does not exemplify what I think Saltheart was to this site.
Sea Dangles 01-28-2015, 11:13 AM I apologize for pointing out the fact Mike does not post much here any longer. Salt of the earth doesn't begin to do him justice in my opinion. He goes out of his way to help and always treats people right. That being said,I really can't remember his last post without the aid of a search. I think we have a lot of deserving members who contribute on a more regular basis. Do they have to approach Larry status as far as a posting contest? No, but members who have only been here a short time probably don' even know his screen name. That being said,let's put him on the ballot and let the voting public decide. That way Larry may decide not to pout.

BigFish 01-28-2015, 11:15 AM Whatever Chris......if I am pouting then God forbid I voice how I feel about it........God forbid anyone else have an opinion other than you or anyone else on here! Its my opinion....don't like it....tough!
Rappin Mikey 01-28-2015, 02:16 PM I second Larry and also nominate Dangles. I want them both on the ballot! This could be better than the Super Bowl. JK! Love you guys both and everyone mentioned on here is great people. That's what makes this the best fishing website around JMO. We all need to catch some fish and get along!
ProfessorM 01-28-2015, 02:28 PM I second Mike P too
RickBomba 01-28-2015, 03:06 PM I vote Paul Iemma
Oh the Irony. I miss his peacekeeping skills the most :)
I don't think the amount of posts should matter. A chatty cathy online doesn't necessarily make someone worthy or a quiet member unworthy. As long as they are a member and their actions "in the real world" warrant a nomination I think it should be considered.
Clammer 01-28-2015, 09:19 PM amen to that JENN .<><><:wave:

But that is not in line with the guidelines that John posted.
Redsoxticket 01-29-2015, 10:38 AM The guidelines also state the following, note the word ONLY;
* Name only
* Member needs TWO nominations (nomination and seconded)

PaulS 01-29-2015, 11:10 AM There are 3 parts to the guidelines;
Simple Rules:
* Member needs to be a member with (at least) regular PARTICIPATION in 2014. Should be based heavily on being a great S-Ber and and all around good fellow.
* Name only
* Member needs TWO nominations (nomination and seconded)
Well then I guess you all said it and shame on me. This is NOT something I feel we as a group should be arguing over.
If John deems his participation to be too low than so be it. His site and he makes the rules ;)
