Who is fishin', and who is catchin'? Let's hear some fish talk out there. I was down the Cape most of the week with my girlfriend. We fished mostly in Truro...by day, from sunrise to sunset, the blues were running up and down the beach...FishChick caught her first bluefish ever, four total, she had a ball. By night I fished eels and had a little action...Wednesday night I caught a striper that measured 40 inches and weighed about 23-24 pounds and one that measured 38 inches and weighed about 18 pounds, released both, conditions were great, had a few runs but they dropped before I could set on them. Thursday night, caught a 38 inch bass on my second cast and thought I would be into fish for quite awhile but that was it as the wind was blowing east-north-east the surf was pushing the eels in too quickly and I could not keep a nice slow retrieve, there was a little mung but most went out on the ebb. Had a few other takes but, again, they dropped before I could set. A few other people I talked to were having about the same results. Considering the last two times I was down there and I got skunked, I had a great time. Nice to avoid the skunk. How is everyone else doing?:bounce:  :kewl: :uhuh:

This island is producing great.

Same kind of scenario as you are having with eels. Slight Mung on East side but big fish.
Brant Point is producing HUGE. Sling an eel on outgoing. I have had two in the last week that were 35-40 lbs !

There have been a handful of 50's taken at the same spot.

West End (Tuckernuck, Muskeget, etc.) has some big numbers.

South shore is great but it is a waiting game until midnight, then hold on and bow to the cow !

Hoping to see some fast fish soon.

Otherwise it is summer and we deserve the warm weather after a winter like that one.

Get on out there !

Good Morning Big Fish,
I went fishing the last three days and got five keepers from 29" to 37". Also ten under 28" I cought an eel that was two and a half feet long and 2 inchs thick. I thought it was a schoolie at first the way it was comming in. The only fish that I brought home were the 32" and the 37". The 37 was a nice fish 18.6 pounds.

Went to Plum Is. Fri night with BassNut, got skunked. Sunday was a little better on the Weir River. Didn't catch anything big enough to keep, but we had a good day.

Went out Saturday in the fog... I made my way out to some rocky isles after my daughter filled the livewell with herring. I had some eels as well and I set out a herring and an eel, then started tossin' ledgerunners into the rocks.

I shortly was into a nice fish on a jerkbait... Brit took a brief turn but the fish was a little much for her. It was 37" and very thick. I'd say upper teens, maybe 20lbs. It was a future hawg. I had lost a bunch of fish in a row, so I was happy to break the cycle. About two casts later, I was into another nice fish that felt about the same. I handed the rod over to the kid and she put some muscle into this time. Unfortunately, it came unglued after some nice runs.

I thought we were gonna have a killer morning, but it got kinda spotty after that. She lost a schoolie at the boat and I had a couple more fish on briefly, including one that was low 30" range. So, she took the skunk (although she enjoyed catching the herring and pitched in on the one I landed).

I didn't have a run on eels or herring.

All the fish were very tight to structure. I threw the bait into some really good rocks and let it work in there a while, but the 5 1/2" smoke split tail ledgerunner drew the hits. I think you had to cover some water.

Getting pretty frustrated with losing fish. I know I handed off to my daughter, but the second fish was on for well over a minute and she had good pressure on it when it came off. The other fish I lost were hooked solid and on long enough to make runs. My hooks are good, sharp owner hooks. Its just bizarre. I'm starting not to believe myself with these stories of the one that got away. I'm not sure where to go with it or what to do to change my luck. Maybe just a heavier stick.

Other wierd thing... I got seasick for the first time that I remember in an open boat. There were slow rollers coming in and in the thick fog, I guess I didn't have a horizon to look at. I felt bad, I was yelling at my daughter cause she was babbling... that and the fog horn on the lighthouse with the smell of herring and bird poop and I was freakin' out. The only other time I remember being sick was a very stormy ferry ride to Nantucket where we were stuck in the cabin... it was about 80 degrees in there and the smell of yack was in the air from all the people yackin' in the bathroom. Blahhhhhh.

The air started to move a bit and I was fine with some water and some fresh air.

got back out on my boat yesterday - I ended up replacing the whole engine. Damn thing was all corroded out. Now I have a 62Johnson25Horses. Took it out to Billington sea to give it a test go through. Fuel line in the engine cracked and an ultra thin mist of gasoline is seeping out.

However - reason for the post - last night while lying in bed I found that I was land-sick. I could still feel the gentle roll of the boat even though the bed was solid.

I just closed my eyes and let the phantom motion rock and roll me to sleep.

Sat night Rhody Shore. Nothin' saw boats anchord up a cast and a half out at both spots I fished so I'm guessing the fish are around. I did notice that the wind was overpowering the tide.
