Recreational fishermen in northeast ocean and coastal areas can now get text alerts from NOAA Fisheries on their cell phones or other mobile devices.

Alerts will include information about marine area openings and closings and possession limit adjustments (bag and size limits), and will be limited to important changes in the Greater Atlantic Region.

Expect about 10 texts per year. You may not receive one for awhile.

Sign up here:

Your information is anonymous and no other information will be recorded.

If you have any questions, would like to change your cell number, or want to stop getting text alerts, please text back or send an email to nmfs.gar.feedback@noaa.gov

Questions? Contact Olivia Rugo, Regional Office, at 978-675-2167 or email her at Olivia.Rugo@noaa.gov

They should send out texts every friday and saturday all season long , in multiple languages , reminding people that you cant keep 42 short porgies, and that leaving your trash on the rocks when you leave is not allowed.

Now that would be something...
