All...If I'm reading this correctly there is still an ever so slight chance to change the NJ bag limit.

If the whole world contacts this nice person via email and explains to them that they object GREATLY to NJ's conservation equivalency plan of 1 @ 28-43" PLUS 1 @ 43" - explain that the vast majority of NJ's bass are taken by boaters - fishing in/around schools of adult bunker - and the majority of the fish caught in those schools would be 36" and larger - making the 1 @ 28-43" PLUS 1@43"+ essentially the same thing as 2 fish/day/person/boat. Two large fish that are extremely important to the stocks as the older, larger females lay many times more eggs, much larger, healthier eggs, with a much better chance of survival and recruitment than smaller spawning stock.
It's honestly, as far as I know, that absolute last chance to force NJ to 1 @ 28", like the rest of the coast. Conservation equivalency is an exception that has continually been abused by NJ - it really needs to be removed from striped bass management.
Send your emails to this nice man and let him know that you disagree entirely with NJ's abuse of the conservation equivalency in striped bass management - explain the part above about how 1 @ 28-43" PLUS 1 @ 43"+ in NJ is essentially 2 @ large breeders/person/day/boat trip...and how it would very likely fail to reduce mortality of 25%.
And the best part?
You don't have to be from New Jersey AND you don't even have to get out of your computer chair.
Let the ASFMC know how you feel about NJ and it's twisting the conservation equivalency wording is not acceptable.
The majority of the 40" fish are caught by 6 pack Charters and large head boats of 25 to 50 anglers fishing a half mile or more off the NJ Beaches during the Spring and Fall Migrations every year.
They target the largest breeders and the NJ rule will allow them to take two over 40 inch prime breeders each day. The goal for the reduction is to save these fish and increase the production of healthy young of the Year striped bass. One fish is enough and any thing over a single fish harvested over 28 inches is due to politics and greed. The NY head boats have will not be butchering large striped bass this spring and fall and NJ needs to join the majority of it neighbors in protection a resource that us in trouble.
Kudo's to the NY State
Marine Fisheries and the Hudson River Fisheries personnel in their solid stand against allowing 2 Striped bass per day. They should be congratulated.
Get involved and send your opinion to the ASFMC employee at mwaine@asmfc.org. It could cause a reverse of the NJ greedy grab for the Charter and headboat Industry. NY also reduced the Commercial Harvest by 25% as well.Check out the LI Forum for more information.
