Ha! Many " fishermen " don't know what to do... It's like a moratorium on fishing. But then again JohnR might have to do the same when he gives the search function on mobile devices ahhhh! Hi john

I have zero respect for the dictator of that site. He pulled my Ledge Runner Bait business ad down, just because the picture links happened to be hosted on this site, when clearly selling a business was not in conflict with his site or business. I was trying to sell baits at one of his get together years and years ago at the canal, he told me to pack it up, that I had no permission to sell at his get together. Tim the TOOL man.

It is not a bash thread. They are our angling brethren.... I have some good friends over there. Their BST is excellent from both sides of the transaction, due to the high volume of listings. I always list here first, but we don't get the traffic. It is nice to have choices. Two different sites. Some differences due to geography. Some due to rules. Like I said, we have choices. I don't always agree with the business model, but it is an option to visit. That said, TimS and I am sure others there, suffered tremendous personal losses from superstorm Sandy that they are still trying to recover from how many years later....

I went on the site and got a little dizzy, too much stuff. When i want to figure anything out in the fishing world this is the spot. When i want to sell something that is the place. I am surprised he doesnt charge a fee for the BST. I suspect that day is coming, if it was my site i would.

Sometimes there is a reasonable expectation of privacy. While I am reasonably sure I have been called an ahole in PMs I have not gone looting around in PMs to find out. It would be fairly easy for a site admin to do and nobody would be the wiser but that is not the environment I want to work in nor provide for others. Law enforcement starts knocking on the door, maybe the PMs get opened - depends on the scenario.

Understood John, but as the site owner, if you wanted to look at PM's its well within your rights...to me, PM only means private from the general public...

I have no way of being sure, but having watched how Tim and the Moderators operate, I'd be very surprised if Tim went through anyone's PMs unless there had been some issues between that member and the other Mods or other members or unless there had been some violation noticed. I really think he has better / other things to do than randomly kick back and read our PMs. There had to be a reason otherwise he wouldn't have wasted his time... just my take. Any more than you'd waste your time trying to track down a problem or check out a problematic member if you hadn't seen or gotten a report of a problem beforehand.

My .02 As you can see I don't post much on either site but always check in. On both sites I will pm if I have something to say to somebody. Don't need remarks from everyone. I will say it is a "nicer group" on here, a lot less people who have something to say about everything. When you have been on a site for less than say 5 years or so and have thousands of posts, well? Anyways I have met Tim a few times and he seems like a good enough guy to me. Actually I can say out of all the guys I've met on both sites there are only maybe a couple that I would not want to fish with or have a beer with. Like it has been said, if ya don't like the rules start your own site. Scott

But back when i first started surf casting that site gave me alot of info. Also got to learn from some really good fisherman i met on that site. Just not the same as it used to be.

I'm a member of a bicycling site that used to be powered by Huddler, and recently switched to the same IPB platform that SOL runs on now. They didn't use the interim server, and their site was down for a full week during the switch. And they had a fraction of the data to transfer as SOL did. There are still things that were lost in the switch, and no clue as to whether the site admin can recover them on his own.

This company is one of the few that has successfully done a Huddler change-over.

This winter i found myself on sol quite often, but since the update it has become frustrating to navigate on a mobile phone, missing key features that make a quick check- in incredibly frustrating.
I guess with spring finally here, the user- UNfriendly update came just in time to break my almost habit.
Besides, the place was bringing out the worst in me, as i would read posts so ridiculous i just couldnt resist responding. Before i knew it i found myself wondering how i found myself in the middle if a ridiculous " discussion" .
Im glad the update is frustrating, because now i no longer check in.

If your password doesn't work, just request a new password to your email. Then follow the link in your email. Once you're in, you can change your password back to your old one afterwards. It's really not that difficult to figure out.
