The late Dean Smith, basketball coach at UNC, was a class act. In his will, he stipulated that each of his players over the many years he coached, receive a check for $200 to go out and have a nice dinner. On him. Checks went out this week.

Somehow I don't see Jim Calhoun doing anything remotely close to this.....

He was a nice guy. I did meet him 1 time. He brought the first African American player to UNC and was out front on many social issues.

I think he was over rated as a coach. Had some of the greatest players of all time on his teams and only won 2 NCAA championships out of like 10 times in the final 4. Both of those games the other team could have easily won if not for monumental bone head plays that went down in history. I saw the Mich. game where Chris Webber called the time out they didn't have. The other game he lost was when Fred Brown from Georgetown threw the ball to I think James Worthy.

Also, it recently came out that UNC gave 2 exemptions each year to the basketball team to allow them to get unqualified players in (I don't know if it extended back to his time as coach - I have to check on that). Back then players stayed 4 years so he possibly had 8 players on his team who didn't deserve to get in to the school.
