View Full Version : Trillium Mettle
rphud 04-08-2015, 06:16 PM Really a top flight double IPA, and you only have to make your way down to Congress Street to grab a growler or two. Save yourself the trip to VT!
These folks are killin' it, and they are really, really nice people to boot. I plan on being there at least once a week as long as I am in Southie now that the weather broke. Nice evening stroll there and back after work, and great beer too!
Clogston29 04-08-2015, 07:01 PM My favorite brewery. Going tomorrow for vicinity. Congress, fort point, vicinity and upper case are my favorites. Have not had mettle yet.

MikeD 04-09-2015, 10:19 AM I work right across the street from the Brewery. Its a blessing and a curse. I grabbed two Vicinity bottles on Monday and two of the Upper Case last week. both were damn good. The Mettle has been my favorite in their DIPA line. Havent grabbed it in a while. Talked to a guy that works there and bar tends at row 34. they are building a facility in Canton and will increase capicity 15X. They will still only be available in Mass, but you will see it on Tap a many more places now. The wait list to get their beer is like 300 shops and restarunts. they are doing something right!
rphud 04-09-2015, 05:10 PM Blessing is great beer and curse is having to up my workouts to keep the weight off. I think I will head back for another Mettle tonight unless the weather sucks too much.
Vicinity is a 100/70 on BA. That is weird.
Clogston29 04-09-2015, 05:34 PM Yeah, the bros review is weird if you read it. Bad batch or something.
Stocked up today. Whenever I have a thurs or fri meeting in town i fill up a backpack of bottles. Didn't see mettle as an option today, mosaic fort point and vicinity only - right up my alley.

Clogston29 04-09-2015, 05:39 PM Only beers I haven't loved are fb-90 and public house. They're very good by other brewery standards, just not in class of their other offerings.

The Dad Fisherman 04-09-2015, 05:41 PM Where is this magical place you speak of.....I've never had anything by them.

The Dad Fisherman 04-09-2015, 08:24 PM I don't ever get into Boston anymore....but I may have to make a trip

rphud 04-09-2015, 08:59 PM Hopefully they will still have the Vicinity tomorrow then.
Rockport24 04-10-2015, 09:19 AM yeah I've never been here either but have always heard great things - I've heard the bar they have there is always a madhouse. Definitely will be stopping by there soon
edit: oh snap, I just saw that it is 10 mins away from my office!!
rphud 04-11-2015, 05:48 AM no more bar or tasting, just purchasing. I think the madness did that in last November or so. Must better for the purchasing, it was just too small to have folks just hanging around.
Clogston29 04-11-2015, 04:41 PM Vicinity is better than I remember....maybe my favorite beer. Tough choice between vicinity and congress street.

rphud 04-11-2015, 06:32 PM Guess I need to get my but over there Monday. Bagged it Friday.
rphud 04-16-2015, 11:44 AM Had Vicinity this week and it looks like Congress is due up shortly. With a bunch of days between "tastings" I am thinking Mettle may a bit better. Hopefully will get a bottle filled of Congress tomorrow for home use.
MikeD 04-16-2015, 12:10 PM This is sort of of a thread divergence, but its another local brew so I'll give it a go. Have you tried the Nightshift Beers? They do a rotating IPA called Morph, each canning is different. I've had the last two and they are very good. I've had the 3/26 and the 2/20 and enjoyed them both. Tasty hop forward ale. They are a nice change of pace when an 8+% beer isnt what you are looking for. They carry it at the shop next to trillium if you are over there again.
Here's the notes for each canning.

Rockport24 04-17-2015, 12:08 PM holy crap you guys weren't f-ing around, picked some up last week and was blown away by how good the vincinity is - definitely a strong rival to Heady in my book.
I got another one of their beers in a growler, I forget the name but it was just a pale ale and it was also outstanding
Kevin - I'll grab a bottle for you. you will love this stuff
The Dad Fisherman 04-17-2015, 12:38 PM You Da man Matt

rphud 04-18-2015, 09:36 AM Night Shift is good stuff. Been to the old place and new one.
Staying in Chelsea and very tempted to stop by again.
Ran late and did not get to Trillium on Friday. Hopefully the Congress Street will be up this coming week if it doesn't get crushed over the weekend and Monday.
rphud 04-27-2015, 09:00 PM Congress DDH (double dry hopped) last week and Vicinity this week. Not too shabby hangin' in the Seaport me thinks. It will likely be sad to see it come to an end.
The Dad Fisherman 04-29-2015, 06:47 AM Night Shift is good stuff. Been to the old place and new one.
Had to take my daughter to her Orthodontist appointment yesterday up in Newburyport. While she was in there I went into this little Wine and Cheese shop down the street.
The guy has this "bookshelf" with some craft beer on it. I look and see he has Maine Beer Another One on the shelf so I grab one.....haven't tried it yet. He asks me if I like the Lunch....I said Oh yeah.......he says his distributor brought him in case by accident......so I grab one of those as well
He also says he just started getting these in.....shows me a little display of a bunch of the Nightshift offerings.....Sweet!!!! and nobody goes in this place :hee:
Clogston29 05-02-2015, 05:21 PM Restocked on vicinity and pm dawn today since I was in the neighborhood.

Rockport24 05-04-2015, 08:58 AM you guys got me hooked on this stuff, it really is amazing, it's a friday after work ritual now to head down to congress and see what's in the growlers..
Clogston29 05-04-2015, 09:03 AM like them on facebook. they update what they have for bottles and growlers daily and even post updates as things get close to running out and when they do run out.
Rockport24 05-04-2015, 09:42 AM nice!

MikeD 07-20-2015, 02:13 PM I know a few of you guys are close to Trillium, that Fort Point Market next store just tweeted that they have the Grey Sail Captains Daughter in cans. Heard good thing from the RI guys on this site, going to run over and try to grab a rack. Beer Public Service Announcement complete.
The daughter is so good

Rockport24 07-20-2015, 03:42 PM Is it an IPA?
Double IPA. It's light and citrusy.
One if my all time favorite beers.

You weren't kidding! Fantastic recommendation. Those will hold their own in any best of New England IPA conversation. Exceeded my expectations.
Glad you liked them. The only other beer from RI that can hold a candle to the captains daughter is Proclomation Brewery's "tendril" and "stalk". Loaded with galaxy and citra hops... Same as the daughter.

Brewery is the only good bet at this point. Bottles and cans tough to get but they almost always have it for fills. If you want bottles or cans, watch their Facebook for occasional availability. I really like bottle rocket too.
Having vicinity tonight. Love it. Been too long.

rphud 11-04-2015, 08:37 PM Way better than nice if you ask me. Still have a bunch of Trillium growlers rattling around in the back of the car to be filled. Next week if all goes well.
The Dad Fisherman 11-04-2015, 08:38 PM Thinking about making a run up to Bissell Brothers and Foundation either this weekend or next. Gotta get some beer for thanksgiving.
