Been in the works for a number of years. Oakley hasn't mentioned it to you?

See the For and Against stuff every time im on the island. Usually something about it in the news paper out there too. According to the numbers they are putting forth in the article it should power the island more or less, at least fully in the off season. I would hope their rates will drop, i heard they were the second highest in the country next to i think Catalina Island in CA.

Running a power cord from the main land would cheaper. hell even Nantucket has shore power

Yes it has one of the highest rates for electricity in the U.S. and the demand has grown since all of the new mansions have air conditioning. There are power surges all the time. I don't think that the wind farm will make the electricity much cheaper.

I'm fine with it as long as I don't hang up my longest casting needlefish off the SE corner ;)

From what Bryan tells me Spence never pays attention, kind of like Block Island Jeff in that way ;)

Unless you are talking about high end clothes on sale at TJ Maxx, good home made food, shoes, or polititical nonsense, Jeff's attention span is limited. :hihi:

Bourbon? Geez, at least you guys have an excuse for not catching anything.

Have any of you guys noticed ships doing work out there on your ferry ride over? A couple of times i have seen big ships way off that looked kind of weird, almost like they had cranes or something else that was tall on them. Maybe i was seeing things after a Bloody Mary, not sure. I have not seen ships like that when on the shore either mainland or on the island.

Yes it is moving forward, yes it should make rates cheaper for the island, and yes we drank a lot of bourbon; in defense that was right after Sandy, we were fishing in coffee milk and decided killing a few braincells was more productive!

I hope it work though I have little faith it will.

Pretty cool ships with the built-in platforms that dig in and then jack up out of the water to start construction

I am all for wind power but all one has to do is look at the monster wind turbine that the town of Portsmouth bought and learn its story.. Imo solar is a better way to go, but RI doesn't have the space to do it right.

What is the cost per KWh between Solar and Wind, and availability of the resource? The Portsmouth Turbine was upgefucht and bad luck.

Solar may be more productive in southern Cali than here. Maybe we need a Nuke plant in Ninigret or Middletown - that would be good, no?

I have a gut feeling that we will be getting a nuke plant in swansea.
Allow me to back step a little. We need BOTH wind and solar. I know the costs of solar have gone down a lot lately.

From what I'm hearing it'll never happen. They are setting it up to open a new 4 Unit Gas plant in 2020 on the same site and reusing the cooling towers. At least that is in the works. They already would have one but with the LNG line in the bay being shut down the region doesn't have enough gas to fill the demand.

I blame Obama & the people of Baltimore

No fish but absolutely one of the best times I ever had on the island.

Why do you thing the rates would be cheaper. Wind power rates are usually higher than fossil fuel power plants. As I recall the Cape Wind project never claimed lower rates to the cape....actually higher.

B/C Block pays more than $0.48 or something for power. For them, it will be cheaper!
