I think new is better(but I don't forsee affording new for sometime), but the 225 yammi 4stroke that I gave #'s for in an earlier post is in the shop because of burnt looking lower gear lube.

Here is the history,
At the 20 hr check up the dealers mechanic said the lower unit oil doesn't look right, after your next trip bring it back so we can look at it. Now he just got the call to come by and take the valubles out of the boat, it might be here a while.

Anyone want to venture a guess on what could cause lower unit oil to burn. I did some searches online and couldn't find anything.

Is it unreasonable to ask for a new motor?

Stay tuned, I'll reply when I know more.

Could have been a few things go wrong, the tolerances might have been out of wack when assembled?
New motor forget about that, new lower maybe? heck it should only take them a few hours to rebuild it.
If you have to call the factory customer service, I don't know about Yamaha but I know Bombardier jumps through hoops for it's customers.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. I have a magic 8 ball at my desk and I asked it if he'll get a new motor and it came back with "yes" and "looks good", so we'll see.

The big concern is he didn't put 2 or 3 hours on the boat after the 20hr check (I think he had 24hrs on it for the 20hr check, the dealer ok'd that ahead of time) he put 44hrs (also with the dealers ok), and in that time could the damage be something that might show up down the road.

Whatever happens we'll learn what the warrantee does for this.

They took the lower unit off, checked everything, it all looked ok. Yamaha has this issue on the books and he gets the boat back tomorrow. Stay tuned for the 100hr service.
