I'd rent a camp on a lake in New England and do nothing but swim, eat, fish, paddle or row and read. Play cards at night on the screen porch. August is corn season, one meal is just sweet corn. And no screens allowed, phone, video or TV.

Yes - New Hampshire, Maine, or VT :btu:

A little cabin on the lake with a dock and a row boat~! Sunfish on worms, smores, and a small hike - great family trip!

It's a bit of a drive or you could fly to BWI but what about Busch Gardens Williamsburg Virginia? You could hit DC, Virginia Beach (maybe not the best place), or possibly Gettysburg.....

Hershey Park is great. We did it last July and my 10 year old keeps asking to go back. Great wolf lodge is awesome, but not for an entire week. My wife and son will be at the one in MA again this weekend for a lax tourney while I'm fishing.

Go to PR it's off season. My preference is west coast Rincon to Aguadilla on the north west corner accommodations will be Fair and people scarce. Lots to do Rainforest day trip to VSJ etc.

Spence Check out little league world series baseball in Williamsport, Pa.
The games are free, the parking is free so you have to keep trying for a room as there booked up B U T as each team drops out the rooms become available.
One of the best vacation ever and there's no smoking no drinking ,no swearing, and no booing inside the park.
The players are 12&13 years old so your kids would really enjoy that.

from what some friends told me SPENCE:

the Disney Cruise was a great Vacation for them

because the Disney staff go out of their way to make
sure the kids are entertained to the point you can totally relax

they go off on their own and have some freedom and a Blast.

Check out point Sebago Resort in Maine. Very family friendly and they have some good deals. We're looking into going for a few nights in late August.

My understanding is that they are very high quality, but the cost was really prohibitive.

We've actually settled on an alternate cruise to Nova Scotia. Not as fancy but still plenty kid friendly and will be about 1/2 the cost.

Thanks for the ideas.

Does that come with or without the norovirus or dysentery from kids peeing (and worse) in the water? :yak6::yak6:

One of the best vacations that we ever had was at the Greenville Inn in Greenville Maine at the Southern tip of Moosehead Lake. We rented a cabin, enjoyed the view and dined royally at the Inn. Outstanding! Wonderful people, wonderful food and a great town to wander around and shop in.

Good trip there!
Mix in a little rafting and a hike at Gulf Hagas.
