I have to go to Bremuda for work soon, trying to see if the grandparents can watch our kids for a few days so I can take my wife. I've never been, I don't think I know anyone who has been.

Suggestions for activities, fishing, diving, restaurants...

We like casual, informal, fun, down-to-earth vacations. I don't want to wear a sport jacket, or long pants for that matter, at dinner. We prefer a local joint where I can go with a short sleeve shirt, khaki shorts, and a baseball cap, and order a grouper sandwich and a beer, and have a relaxed, good time. Which is why our favorite place is Key West, I don't like having to put on airs, I don't want to have to dress formally and sweat like a pig..

Any help would be appreciated, as always.

I was there recently and it is a great place for couples. If you have to wear shorts,just make sure you have those long Bermuda socks. There are a lot of places in the center of town for any type of faire with the majority being casual attire. Mad Hatter was very good,out of the way a little bit, and next door to The Mariners club of the Bermuda Sailors home. Stop in for a beer and great conversation with locals. Your dining options will be dictated by your hotel location. I recommend their public transportation for a colorful tour of the island.

I've done Bermuda a couple of three times and it's a pretty nice place. I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but tourists/visitors are not allowed to rent cars and their city buses do not allow luggage on board... so you're kind of strapped to getting a taxi or bus to and fro.

For getting around once situated, you can either get a taxi....or hop on the city buses (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g147255-s303/Bermuda:Caribbean:Public.Transportation.html) which take you completely around the island. They run non-stop so after purchasing a 1 or multi-day fare...(I believe you have that option), it's very inexpensive...but you do have to wait at the bus-stop for the next bus @15-20 minute intervals based on how you catch it....like Dangles said, "colorful"....LOL, plus you get a chance to talk to the locals in regards to what's going on and when....

One place that I would definitely recommend for dining, and it's exactly as you detailed....would be Wahoos (http://www.wahoos.bm/). Very down to earth, good food...great atmosphere.

You may want to spend a couple of hours at the Crystal Caves (http://www.caves.bm/)...you or your wife may find it "cool"...again, their local buses will have bus-stops near this area so you don't have to get stuck paying a dedicated taxi nor paying for it excursion style.......another funny sight is one of the smallest draw-bridges in the world....it has an 18" timber-panel that gets opened or drawn just providing enough room for a mast to get through...(The Somerset Bridge)

In regards to a beach, I HIGHLY recommend HorseShoe Bay (https://www.google.com/search?q=horseshoe+bay+bermuda&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0CB4QsARqFQoTCMCjw8qVksYCFdJDjAod-3sOZQ&biw=1440&bih=766). It has an incredible beach along with a smaller ocean pool-like area (cove) protecting you from the ocean. It also has a bar & grill with decent table-fare. You can rent chairs/umbrellas right on the beach...The bus will leave you at the top of an extremely long hill....however, for $1....someone will bring you up or down the hill. :D.....you may laugh at that now, but you'll be paying it once you see the hill (especially after spending a long day at the beach).

I chartered out ParadiseOne (http://www.paradiseone-fishingcharters.com/) and although the fishing wasn't stellar, Delvin and his brother Allen are very good at what they do. The boat/equipment and over all time was exceptional. I would recommend them for a shot at some Wahooooo or other local fish, if that's in your budget. For that, I had to talk to a taxi driver and coordinate a pick-up time as the buses don't run as early as the fishing does....;)

What I love about key west, I can go for a week, and not pack a single article of clothing that has a button or a zipper (that's my goal in retirement, no buttons, no zippers). T-shirts, gym shorts, i can can eat anywhere I care to go. I can pack a week's worth of clothes in a shoe box.

Oh, and for fishing, my wife woul dprefer to anchor up over a reef or wreck, drop down live bait, and catch some good table fare (grouper, snapper, etc).

Rent a moped. Go all over the island. Just don't do it after drinking too much. I have seen many cases of folks with Bermuda road rash....

I second the moped. It's beautiful with its pink beaches. Do a google search for "things to do while visiting Bermuda" and I'm sure you will get lots of info.

I think if you can possibly stretch your wardrobe choices you will find a sizable middle ground between the gym shorts and the Trimingham shorts complete with knee socks..... It will be worth it. They're English. First impressions can make or break things sometimes. And I don't think a pair of khaki shorts is putting on airs.....

Personally , if you want to go places @ your pace & places / like said rent a scooter . by the hour, day or week .just remember opposite side of the road .........& you,ll see the roads are narrow , hilly & plenty of curves .......... I didn,t bother with fishing the times I,ve been there ............anywhere I go were the water is clear I choose to spend my time snokeling & its great there &&&&& if you intend on buying property there ....you can,t unless your a citizen of that country >>>>>>>>>>>>>>ENJOY ><><

X2... The hospital on the island has a ward dedicated specifically for moped injuries. The whole "wrong side of the road" thing is dangerous, especially in some of the rotary's. Be careful wandering off the beaten path after dark too, there are some rough areas prone to muggings and robberies. I don't want to take anything away from it, its a very beautiful place with lots of quaint locations, and gorgeous beaches. The rum swizzle is the drink of choice, and can be dangerous also!! I spent 5 months there for work several years back. It is a great place for couples as was mentioned. If you want casual in Hamilton try the Pickled Onion. I went there so much that they used to call me Mr Newcastle which was my beer of choice. It has a nice deck overlooking the harbor. If you want a pub, the Hog Penny is right around the corner. I spent most of my time in Hamilton which I am assuming that you are staying there because you're there for work. I would definitely rent a scooter as it is the best way to see the island. I recommend the Swizzle Inn which you will pass on your way in from the airport. It has the best slogan for a bar, Swizzle Inn Swager out. Like others said don't drink and drive a scooter. There are many patches of sand to hit especially when driving on the left. If you decide that you want a very nice dinner got to Ascots at the Royal Palms. That is where I stayed. Have fun.

Geez. Just went by 100 nm south of Burmuda a couple weeks ago heading 270 from Morroco to florida. Wish we could have stopped.

Mopeds, fun but dangerous. We were discouraged by cruise line on renting. Opt to use bus. Traffic along w/opposite side driving makes for sometimes quick decisions. On a alarming note, just the other day good friends of ours were involved in a moped accident which left the wife hospitalized w/ collasped lung. Hospital was very good. Air tube was removed and so far the lung is still inflated. The unfortunate thing was the cruise ship isn't returning until Friday and they had no place to stay if she gets released today. The hospital advized them
of where to stay till Friday until the ship arrives. The cruise line will accomodate them for the return. By the way, she was hit by an oncoming car's side view mirror, boke a rib & collapsed the lung. Bruises and bangs too. Mopeds??????????

Yeah they filmed a great movie there back in the day,called "The deep" .I was a kid when it came out and I'll never forget the first 10 min. of it....
I think that inspired bars to have wet T Shirt contests.

Go to local pubs foods good and price too, stay away from the tourist traps unless wife is shopping but before u shop go check out and see which cruise ship is in and then tell that shop u r from that ship they will give u a better price on what ever.
