View Full Version : Sculpin grapefruit IPA.
Oh my god. New favorite summer IPA!
I only found it at a local watering hole and need to find a local packy that has it. Has anyone found some in Rhode Island?
Clogston29 06-22-2015, 07:17 PM Easy to find in ma. Get it in cans if you can - always tastes fresher.

The Dad Fisherman 06-23-2015, 06:33 AM I've been drinking the crap outta that the past few weeks.....love the stuff. Pretty easy to find around here....cans and bottles.
Im certain this beer is going to win some awards.

Sea Dangles 06-23-2015, 07:24 AM I like it but it seems girly
Man it up with the habanero sculpin

no way! That beer is as crisp and refreshing as it comes.
Girly is a gansett lemon shandy or a bluemoon with a slice of orange.
The habanero sculpin is one I have not tried but have no desire too. IMHO it's a few notches lower than the gimmicky bacon ale from stone.

The Dad Fisherman 06-23-2015, 07:47 PM Had the Habenero......really didn't do it for me. Tasted good, but didn't need the bite.
It's basically Sculpin that will make you pay in the morning for a good night drinking

JohnnySaxatilis 06-24-2015, 10:51 AM Ditto!! really enjoyed it, had it for the first time few weeks ago. that sixer did not last long
fishbones 06-24-2015, 03:18 PM I've been drinking it since April and it's become one of my go to beers. I like that it has grapefruit flavor but still tastes like an IPA. It's not too acidic like the shandy's.

Rockport24 06-25-2015, 10:47 AM have to try this!
I love the leinekugal shandy... kind of a guilty pleasure
fishbones 06-25-2015, 12:24 PM I can drink a shandy or two, but they're too acidic. The Sculpin has the grapefruit flavor but it's not overwhelming or acidic.

JoeBass 07-15-2015, 09:48 AM I got a six pack based on this thread and got another I liked it so much. Nice and clean. Great summer beer.
Found some yesterday at Vickers on Bellevue. Almost fainted at the cash register - $17.00 for a 6 pack! It's good but not worth that much for a 7% ABV beer. I'll just throw some grapfruit rind in my regular IPAs ;)
Liv2Fish 07-21-2015, 09:54 AM A cheaper version with a similar grapefruit twinge is the Mayflower IPA. Not as complex or balanced but not bad on draft. Much cheaper by the rack too.

Meh.
Rockport24 08-14-2015, 09:23 AM I tried it as well and gotta say its damn good, I don't recall paying $17 for a six pack though!

Grapefruit IPA's. Are not for everyone. While I love this beer, it's too expensive. I prefer magic hat electric peel on tap. It's lighter and more refreshing.

Careful with that suggestion. I got no further than the sample.

Its different. ;)
I will have 2 or 3 after making glass all day and I am spent and really thirsty. I find them super refreshing, but I could see that a traditionalist might think that it's too weird.
