View Full Version : So... That Flag Thing

I put this up on crapbook earlier. I fear I am turning into "Get Off My Lawn Guy" but I have a lot of concern about where we are heading as a nation.

So - I can't buy anything with a Confederate Flag shopping on Google (163 examples of confederate flag books alone on Amazon) but I can get 20 PAGES of Che Guevara (murder) SHIRT on Google. We are what we are as a nation, the good and the bad, as a result of that minor dust up 150 years ago. We do a disservice to ourselves, our history, and our future when we knee-jerk whitewash* with a broad brush. (* another term hijacked by the WordMafia)

People, we are getting into a very scary time. This fast paced Ping Pong match of reactionary bad ideas is getting out of hand.

What will the Censorship Mafia chose next?

To add further fuel to the dumming-down of America, there are more and more restrictions on religion and religious figures on tv than ever before, but more and more freedom of vulgar-speak.

I "tried" to watch the first episode of a new show on TBS called "Clipped".

Opening scene is a "force-fed" scene with two gay men kissing goodbye as they start their days.

1) you don't know they're gay until they kiss.
2) One guy was "Norm" from CHEERS.

That was as far as I got. I am not a homophobe by any means, but when the so-called comedy is contrived and as stale as week old bread it has nothing to keep my attention.

Another show is "My family or Yours"
The guttural vulgarity they presume will be funny is also painful to watch.

I'm sorry, but I like clean funny stories and jokes without having to go to confession after each episode!

I agree there is no reason to pretend as if the confederate flag never existed. I do think it's a good idea to refrain from displaying it atop public state buildings.

To hear the left restate history, it was Eisenhower and William F Buckley who opposed the Civil Rights Act, instead of Al Gore Sr and Robert Byrd.

And now they want to do away with the film Gone with the Wind because it so prominently displays the Confederate flag...... We are getting exactly what the nation voted......twice. The dumbing of America.

I'm in the mindset where the flag has no place on public buildings, but other than that, let it be. You can buy a nazi flag which is way worse...
Anything beyond that is a first amendment violation. If I want to fly a confederate flag, I should be allowed to, just as a person can burn an American flag if he or she wanted to.

The Confederate Battle Flag (the one that gets the attention is actually a merge of multiple Army flags) flying in SC is not atop the State House as is most often being reported, it is at a Civil War monument next to the State House.

I have no love of the Confederate Battle Flag, though I do appreciate its history both to the Southerners and to the USA as a whole. To stand upon the grounds of Gettysburg, I can understand why people admire it and I am appreciative that the south lost at that battle. But things are not cut and dry and lack of knowledge heaped on top of agenda does not an honest conversation make.

Hmmm, I didn't know that, I thought it flew on the state house.

Also, when I first read the title of this thread, I read it incorrectly and thought you were talking about the SCOTUS ruling that came out today, ba-dum-bum-pssh..

Getting rid of the confederate flag will only serve one real purpose, which is based on an old saying:

Those who forget our country's history are doomed to repeat it!!!

Maybe that's the plan right from the start???

Force a racial and societal split into people's lives and history WILL repeat itself!

I on occasion see a confederate flag in and around my area of the world. Generally it's adorning some POS car or truck with a dip#^&#^&#^&#^& that has zero clue what it meant or why he's displaying it, other than delusions of grandeur.

It doesn't bother me in one bit. Actually helps me weed out idiots I need to stay away from. Like scrapes on the side of cars in traffic or a parking lot.

A slippery slope, what is next?

There are some very well known and vocal individuals out there calling the US flag a symbol of hate.

I do believe U R wrong about Eisenhower opposing Civil Rights Act.....It was Eisenhower who pushed thru the 1957 civil rights act and the 1960 civilrights act.....and he established the civil rights commission and desegragated the military......it was LBJ who made the bill very weak stripped it of enforcement.....republicans supported the bill and exclusively denounced by democrats Every single segregationist in the Senate was a Democrat. Only one of them ever became a Republican: Strom Thurmond.
Lets not blame eisenhower....put the blame where it belongs and U R right about Buckley....:)

I was being sarcastic. Conservatives, like Ike, were generally in favor of equal rights. The segregationists, like Al gore sr and Robert Byrd, were Demi's. The demos are trying to rewrite history

I've been around for 3/4 of a century and never remember anytime our nation has been divided on so many things as in the last few years. The Melting Pot has stopped melting, our morals and values are being attacked ,and we are floundering as a nation without a selfless purpose.
If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything, and united we stand divided we fall. Imh opinion we are quickly reaching the no return of The UNITED STATES of AMERICA. :(
I think our Service men and women would turn over in their graves if they knew they lost their lives for the Freedoms we are losing.

Didn't they use chains to control the slaves? Time to remove chains from society.

Didn't they feed the slaves lobsters? Time to remove lobster from society.

They used slaves to pick cotton so I assume the sight of cotton is also offensive. Time to remove cotton from society.

The slaves were transported by ships while chained so maybe 2 birds with 1 stone; chains and ships need to go.

Perhaps sunscreen should also go, because it keeps the whites so white.

There is Federal Law on not desegrating the American Flag. The socialist liberal democrats of the supreme court in 1989 ruled that the federal law goes against first admendment rights of freedom of speech......recently a person hung the flag upside down to demostrate the country is in distress ,was arrested and in court also was ruled the first admendment right.

Little that some do not know the conferate flag had the same rules but never enforced such as the KKK should not have been permitted to use that flag.....:)

The confederate flag that everybody is all up in arms about wasn't even the flag of the confederacy.....

the latest I heard too was that they are planning on digging up the remains of a confederate general and his wife and moving them.....this has gone from ridiculous to insane.

Likely something some had wanted for a while but now they have some momentum to get it done. Perhaps it goes to show how negative these symbols really are within certain circles.

Not that I agree, your history good or bad can't be disowned...that being said it was time to take the flag down.

I do want my Dukes back though.

That way we will all be equal under our New Chinese Overlords when they come asking for their money back.
