QUINCY - Three men were fined more than $1,500 after they were caught taking more than 200 shellfish and several illegally sized striped bass from contaminated tidal flats in Quincy on Saturday.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police said the men, who were not identified, were intercepted in a motorboat near the remains of the Long Island Bridge after officers on shore in Quincy saw them leaving the mud flats with a variety of shellfish. The agency said the men were caught with six illegally sized striped bass, 162 oysters, 56 razor clams, one soft shell clam and one quahog.
The men were charged with civil violations of marine fisheries laws. Police also seized their boat and are seeking to have it forfeited.

An EPO stopped me and politely asked for my license about 2 weeks ago in Narragansett. I thanked him for being out and about...
Cool Beans 07-07-2015, 03:45 PM Just like every year for the past 5 years, I see RI DEM one day a year and that is on opening day of trout season.... After that they become very scarce.
blue oyster 07-07-2015, 03:55 PM I did not know there were oysters in quincy bay and I grew up there and been around the water my whole life
Clammer 07-07-2015, 03:55 PM &&&&&&&&& on opening day of deer hunting ><><><
Poncho 07-07-2015, 08:14 PM I got checked at shelter cove boat ramp. I didn't even have it out of the water yet and he was all over me. Checked cooler, and boat for fish. It was the first day of the ri commercial season.

Yup, we have oysters here. I opened one up a few years ago,[has the statute of limitations run out yet?], but it looked pretty funky.

FishermanTim 07-08-2015, 09:07 PM That's almost as good as hearing about great fishing.
Might make these POS's think twice about raping the environment!
Fly Rod 07-09-2015, 10:43 AM I have a relative on the EP in Mass and he says they R short of man power and basically mostly only go after people when they have a complaint......I said then take a few from here we have at least a dozen that operate from here....:)
Raven 07-09-2015, 01:05 PM not to mention these bastids were probably gonna sell
some of these shellfish that were contaminated.
Moron_Saxatilis 07-10-2015, 08:58 AM I have yet to see an actual RI DEM officer or vessel this year. Only vehicles on the road. I have called in the past several times after seeing people fill a bucket with snapper blues, put them in vehicle and repeat. The fall bluefishing has been pitiful for years in Narragansett Bay.
