I received a call last night from his son informing me that Ed Nowak, "The Fishin' Pole" passed away. Many are familiar with Ed from The Fisherman Magazine's "South Shore to Boston" report, and he has been a staple of the magazine since the 1970's.

Sad - I spoke with him last year. He loved talking to people who remembered his writings in The Fisherman Mag. RIP Fishin Pole

RIP. Fished with him once on captain Roger Broussou's boat. Nice guy. Always did enjoy his writing and sense of humor in it.

Wow....R.I.P Ed... I took Ed fishing on several occasions back in the late 80's ... he was always one of the most enjoyed speakers for the Merrimack Striper club...

I always remember his articles and his weekly reports as being written by a humble and knowledgeable author with a sense of humor who seemed to easily make friends with everyone. We need more people like Ed Nowak.

He and Matty Ahearn were two reasons why I kept subscribing. Matty wrote about party boat fishing in the LI edition. He had a great article about the time he was working as a mate, and Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig came aboard to fish.

Jack Fallon was another favorite writer.

Tight lines, Ed.

Here is a link to story which appeared in print in The Fisherman back in January on Ed. He really was a unique character that lived a long and interesting life.
