Only thing that has prevented me from buying them is their lack of rubberized grips.

And I dont feel I should have to 'mod" the grips when paying 325$ +

I have a pair of 30 year old Sargent pliers that cost about $20.

The cutters won't cut braid any more, but they'll still cut mono and hook shafts. :btu:

And if I lose them, I buy another pair of either those, or Manleys, for about $35 now.

Accurate makes a nice looking pair of aluminum, I got 2 pairs.
Im.waiting for the price of scrap Aluminum to go up to recoup some of what they cost.

Yes they do... but take a close look at the actual jaws... they are screwed on with tiny screws! I had a pair and my 2 year old son tapped them gently on the kitchen floor at the jaw broke off where the screw attached. No thanks.

Yup! Me too Ronny! I have never changed my cutters as yet......cut vmc 3/0 hooks with them a few times and they still quite like new!!

FYI-If you have not owned a pair of VS pliers you don't have a clue about them! Over the 13+ seasons I have had mine they have been on every outing with me in wetsuit, surf, kayak.....whatever! They are still like brand new! You keep buying your $35 pliers and getting new ones every season or twice a season! This pair of pliers has already paid for themselves and will last me the rest of my life! I also have a small pair for freshwater! 2 of the best investments I have ever made for a tool that is as necessary as a fishing rod......might as well have the best and.....they are!:cool::lama:

I got mine on eBay.

Think I paid $180 brand new in box, only reason was because spelled van staal wrong (van stahl) and I don't think anyone saw em.

Worth the money, buy a good high quality lanyard and check it throughout the season.

I have a pair of the 6 or 7" Hansom pliers on my light weight belt set up, and they can barely bend a line tie on a plug, never mind remove a buried hook, they flex a lot, plus side is cutters are great, so they now are in my freshwater box.

Like stated above, the screw in jaws are junk, one piece or nothing from now on.

No need for rubberizing or modifying. The metal has a texture to it that prevents slippage, even with the slimiest of hands. Also, the bad azz leather holster with handy lanyard will keep them safe and secure should a drop happen to occur.

Make one.
Thin black cord/rope they string up outriggers or similar works good.
Tie good knots direct to the rings.
Screw snaps at each end, that way you can't lend them out, which is probably the number 1 reason they end up in the drink or lost.

Did you miss the part of my post where I mentioned that my $20 Sargents are 30 years old? Actually, I think 32 now. :hihi:

Have to say that I have never regretted the money that I spent on my vs pliers. 8 years old and like new, did have to replace the leather holder after 7 years. There are a lot of fishing purchses that I would take back if I could, these are not on.

no doubt VS pliers are a high quality item,but do you need them to take a hook out of a fishs mouth,io don't my 8.99 anglers choice SS needle nose pliers have served me well for the last 15 years.to cut braid the few times i need to out in the feild i use a small snip that is meant for cutting braid.since i crush all my barbs cutting hooks is not an issue for me,i do have a pair of large sargents in my vehicle if the need does arrive.

For $39 or whatever I paid for them, I've been pleasantly surprised with the larger tsunami pliers. I did wrap electrical tape around the handles for a better grip, but other than that I have no complaints.

Dito on that one Bart, as for the tape try using the black cloth electrical "old school" tape.

Fishbones your pliers suck....I would of been better off with a pair of chop stix or a hockey stick!

Haha, that's why I have those cheap pliers in my bag, for cutting braid and hooks. The ones on the lanyard will never get new cutters because I'm too lazy.
