Fly Rod 07-24-2003, 09:25 AM Plenty of bait today the boat came in this morning and the 2nd boat should be in this afternoon.
Last week the bait was gone by late friday and they only had junk on Sat. & Sunday.
There schedule seems to be Tuesday & Thursday that the boats come in.
RockLobsta 07-24-2003, 09:29 AM Thanks
I may have to take a ride up today........
Thanks for the info.......
taJon 07-24-2003, 12:51 PM Is there a good place nearby to get chum? I heard of a place in Raliegh but if there's something closer, that would be better. Or could I just grind up some herring?
RockLobsta 07-24-2003, 03:13 PM We just use about half a five gallon pail and grind it up......
Can't beat the price
Fly Rod 07-24-2003, 04:24 PM The 2nd boat came in this afternoon They are open Saturday at 5:00am
Grind up the herring for chum.
With the dogs around you may not want to chum. I didn't do any chuming last Sunday and i still got dogged out.
taJon 07-24-2003, 04:51 PM Well, if you're not chumming, are you trolling the herring? My other option I guess would be live bait, but I haven't been too successful with that as of lately.
What is the price for the herring, 5 gal bucket, tote?
Fly Rod 07-24-2003, 05:15 PM Chuming-- ground up herring or what ever
Chunk chuming-- small cut up pieces of herring that you cut up.
Chunking-- a chunk of herring 2"-4" piece
When chunking you don't troll, you anchor or you drift. Sometimes you use a sinker and other times you let it drift with your chum with no sinker. the more line you let out with out a sinker the deeper your bait will go. Slack tide or ebb tide baits with no sinker will go deeper. Running tide baits won't go deep need sinker some time Need to use judgement.
5gal.----- $ 10.00
Tote------$ 18.00 4-5 5gal. to a tote
RockLobsta 07-24-2003, 08:02 PM Thanks for the info on the opening FR....I'm all over that.....Be there bright and early....
Fly Rod 07-24-2003, 09:18 PM Pays to have a freezer new or old. When I buy my totes I freeze 4 buckets and grind the 5th one for chum chum. Mix little at a time with water last long time that way.
Your welcome Glad to be of help.
Fly Rod 07-25-2003, 09:46 AM NOOOO!!!!! fresh bait at the pier SOLD OUT! ! ! :smash: :smash: Only have frozen bait, 50lbs. $8.00 dollars.
RockLobsta 07-25-2003, 03:48 PM That is a bummer........looks like frozen.......oh well
Thanks again for the info....
Fly Rod 07-25-2003, 08:27 PM What they do is they ship some in tanker trucks to other places, they also process some of it and they also sell it as bait here.
I just can't believe how quick 500,000lbs go in a couple of days.
