having trouble with those annoying grey pop ups heres how to disable it!! hope it works!
1-ClickStart->Control Panel 2-Click Administrative Tools 3-Double click Services 4-Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
5-Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties. 6-Click the STOP button. 7-Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar 8-Click OK

You can also go to messenger > tools > options > preferences > deselect run when Windows starts up and run in the back ground. Also in Outlook > tools > options > general - deselct messenger from starting when Outlook starts...
For those of you that have little or no idea on how to rebuild a computer, you might want to not make changes to what services start ( and certainly changes to the registry) or not to start. Some services may seem OK to turn off because they seem unimportant then your computer might not boot the next time :rollem: .... Just be carefull in there and think before you act :shocked:

this is different from msn messenger chat this is some kind of advertiseing sceme that keeps alerting you with a grey box I talked with msn tech on how to cure this problem they walked me through it since i did it i havnt got a pop up ad and my messenger is still working!!

Hey, I guess I am not the only one. Keep gettin some lame stocktracker thing popin up every two minutes!! Thanks for posting these tips. Let ya know how I make out.

Yeah, John what he said on the advertising scheme is true in my case. It seems to exploit a known hole in that it uses your Administrative messenger service againest or to torture you. I selected disable versus manual hope that is the correct way to go. Thanks again guys.
