Just back from a job I received via a referral this morning.
Woman called for a ceiling repair and installation. Said I would understand once I saw it.....
Arrived at 9. Early 40s, attractive. Upstairs to bedroom. Ceiling looked like swiss cheese. She hands me two 1/2 inch by 5 1/4 inch lag eye screws without saying a word.... A quick look around the room tells me she is not married. So.... I ask if the holes are where she ideally wants the screws mounted. And then it got.....interesting. I had to ask how much weight the eyes were to support and she points her two index fingers to her chest....OK... She finally pulled out the swing. And then it was; well, if I can find a joist near the foot of the bed, would that be ok?
I did find joists and set them 16" apart. She had previously hit strapping and they had not held. I will update if it is installed when I go back for second coat of joint compound for the repairs......
I should have asked how her Valentines day was.....:rotflmao:

Pulled down attic stairs to get joist layout. Lay paint cloth over bed. Two pilot holes, install two screws. Ten minutes with trip to truck. Get bucket of joint compound, first coat, clean knives, out the door an hour after I arrived.

I'm not full service gc anymore...... She will be at work when I return for finish coat tomorrow and leave a bill......

Now I'm wondering how and if this will come up in conversation with the woman who made the referral.... because that is a different (better) story.

No chit. Had I known, I would have made this appointment for later in afternoon instead of mid morning....

I would have said something about testing the swing before I left to insure it worked properly

You should send over a younger single friend for the job inspection when then ceiling is dry. From an insurance liability perspective it would be wrong to not test the installation given the stated use case.

Hmmmmm....That sounds diplomatic even. Wondering if I can say that to her with a straight face.....

I have a story about installing a stockade fence one time and the lady want to "help". I said the sections are pretty heavy. She said, with a straight face: "No you're not getting it. I want to HELP!".
I left. Too old and married too long to start that s-h-I-t.
