I have a number of twin fluorescent lights throughout the shop and am considering going to LEDs. Am I better off replacing the whole lamp with the bulb? I brought a 4' LED bulb home and it seems like surgery to convert my existing to accept it.....

This may help:

Also a search on the same forum will yield a lot more info...

are your existing lamps T8 or T12?

Have you thought about led strip lights, they are really inexpensive and run on 12V.

They are very bright and come with a remote control to dim and change color.
You can buy a 5 meter roll soup to nuts for $15 on the web.

Had no idea that LED was available for the 4 footers. Thank Ross,,, I've been struggling trying to see while rod wrappen. Picked one up at HD to try it out,,, I'm in! brighter and a better light, I could see a big difference with just the one bulb,,, plug and play also.... No fuss no muss, pull the old one out plug the new one in...

Cons..... $$$ 22 bucks for the one bulb : :af:

Glad to be of service but I thought $10/bulb was tooo much. I need 6 for my shop but maybe someday when all my solar panels are fired up I will make the switch. Got 45 panels on my roof, electrical inspection today.

I picked up two complete 4 foot units with led bulbs included at BJs for 34.00 each.

These made such a difference that I am waiting for my brother to deliver three additional lights I had him pick up for me on his BJs run. Made by Lights of America 5000 lumens. Just what I needed. Excellent upgrade. Should be over all rod wrapping and plug turning areas....

I got a bunch of the greenlightdepot bulbs to convert my fixtures over, they work great and are bright but one huge problem. They interfere with radio causing loud buzzing but the further away from the receiver, the better so I can use them way out back in my finishing room at least.

I may have to try the complete units to see if those interfere also so I can change the rest of the shop, although I have a ton of replacement flourescent bulbs on hand.

How about going to electronic ballast to stay flouresant
