I've had the worst sour stomach and diarrhea since the middle of January. My day starts after a bland diet of toast, coffee with honey (no creamer) and then I have to "run" to the bathroom, with 2-3 more repeat trips before I get to start my day. I've had the blood work and stool samples all coming back normal. Then my primary prescribed some wonderful meds and since I was put on them on the 15th, it made it an all day fun filled bathroom experience and no drinking or you vomit immediately.

Thank God I'm retired and don't have to deal with this "sh*t" at work or on the road. I haven't had a pizza, slice of cheese, glass of milk or any diary in forever and no beer or wine in a week; I'm about to loose it. At least the doctor told me to go off these meds, which means I can have a beer by Sunday, oooh LUCKY ME!

I have a golf trip planned on April 29th, sorry guys better make mine an 11am tee time, I have some things I need to unload to welcome you all home. Aren't I lucky enough to be seeing a GI specialist on April 20th, I told my primary today NO F'ING way I'm waiting that long; get on the phone and get me in sooner. I'm so tired of this SH*T, I am really getting grumpy and its going to get worse.

Is this rant on the right board

I'll try anything at this point, because right now I'm sitting here early am why; because in order to get to Stoneham by 8am to set up for the flea market, I need time to get through the worst of my morning ritual:(.

Yogurt helps. I'm sure you know that though... If you don't eat yogurt because you think it's gross, consider trying Noosa honey or coconut Greek yogurt. It is so damn good. Loaded with good bacteria for your gut.

My breakfast was always Greek yogurt, fruit and granola on top. My primary thought my system might have been shocked by all the cheese and dairy over holidays and thought I may have developed a lactose intolerance and put me on no dairy. Since that didn't work I'm going back to yogurt.

Ok. Consider eliminating wheat. You might have begun a wheat / gluten sensitivity

So no more beer, bread, pizza; just kill me now:(. At this point getting off gluten for a week or two is worth trying, at least I like wine almost as much as a good IPA (man will I miss that if this is what I have). Looking through the pantry, OMG not a lot in there I can eat, looks like its whole foods and grilled meat, ok so a nice cab with a slab of beef:)....sounding better. I could improve my colon and make the heart suffer.

I couldn't imagine living s wheat free life but I will say that good grocery stores stock lots of alternatives. Gluten free crackers, bread, pasta, etc. giving up beer would slay me.
Thai food and sushi would bring great joy though as its a rice based diet.

Good luck with this.

Loosing weight hasn't been an issue, the lbs are dropping away, nothing I eat stays in my system long enough to be absorbed. I'm going to light a fire under my primary today to get me in to see someone sooner than my April 20th appointment. But yesterday I picked up a bunch of gluten free sandwich wraps, snacks and probably should have gone a little easier on my first taste (wine) of alcohol in two weeks. Between the wine and the grilled broccoli, peppers and mushrooms to go with the steaks, was up multiple times last night.

My wife has something similar going on. She developed an allergy to Soy. As Soy is in pretty much EVERYTHING - 90% of foods have some form of soy or vegetable oil derived from soy.

What I would recommend is a few days of this:

Breakfast: plain egg, ham, not other ingredients

Lunch salad no other ingredients other than base stuff like ham or egg for protein and be VERY careful on salad dressing.

Dinner, plain chicken or fish with no real toppings. Get a few days of zero Soy though you and see what happens.

You need to check every label for anything which is mixed.

Bad news was the GI specialist said that while I was starting to see some improvement after being Gluten free for 3 days, he needed me to go eat and drink as much as I could for a couple days to get the test results he needed. Was so nice to have a big sloppy pizza last night and I'm enjoying the beer for a couple days, although I hated to go back to the usual issues.

keep in mind that spirulina is 70% protein
and highly digestible.... whereas the finest steak is only 22 %
~
pizza is the hardest to digest as the dough
is real heavy ...hopefully you chose thin crust

i use the small yogurt cups to mix in a heaping
table spoon of whey protein powder
you can get @ walmart for $18.00

Yeah I can manage a diet and I'd gladly give up some thing in order to get back to a regular digestive routine. I enjoyed my two days of eating whatever I wanted and a couple 6 packs of beer, but I'm definitely paying for it today. The lab has my good "stuff" and some blood this morning, so hopefully I'll get some results by the middle of the week.

Can't wait to feel normal again.

Jury is in, looks like I've tested positive and C.Diff is the culprit. I read the likely causes and oddly I've not been on any long term or even short term antibiotics. Not happy to hear my GI say it can be a bitch to treat and sometimes it can take a long time to get rid of it. The flagyl my primary put me on is usually what the insurance people want you to start on but I had a "Sh*t" reaction to that after three days, so he is pushing for the more expensive stuff. Then hearing what another alternate treatment was (stool transplant) made me think, who do I know that is so full of Sh*t; they can spare some for a transplant. I'm just happy to have a diagnosis and starting point so I can get on something that might work.

Wow Bob, C Diff is a very serious infection and I am pretty sure contagious, be very careful. I hope all goes well with the treatment. I am surprised it took so long to diagnose this, were they looking for it from the beginning?

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm looking for a new primary care physician, anyone have any recommendations in the Plymouth MA. area. My GI specialist had it diagnosed the day after I gave him a deposit, my primary had samples tested twice and never asked for the right testing.

It is, in the hospital if someone has cdiff anyone entering the room usually has to have gown and gloves...

What I don't get is where the hell I picked it up, as I've not been near a hospital, haven't been sick in a long time, no antibiotics until just recently in an attempt to put a stop to this. Sh*t happens and I guess I will never know.

garlic is also considered to be an antibiotic
but the difference is
it doesn't kill off the beneficial bacteria
only the bad bacteria....
yogurt only re-supplies lactobacillus bulgaricus
and Streptococcus thermophilus
which are quite different than Saccharomyces BOULARDII
hopefully your package from puritan will arrive today

Been on it since yesterday, I'm hoping it will help, but now I get to have the insurance company battle. My GI specialists wants me on the higher priced antibiotics not the generic flagyl and lucky me CVS called last week (ahead of a weekend of course), they won't fill it due to the insurance company. So now I have to see if the GI office can make a case for putting me on it, although at this point if someone told me that would end it; I'd pay the $1,000 bucks for the f'g pills.

The weather outside matches my mood perfectly.

Insurance companies s*ck, they had my prescription since last Thursday and I still can't get it approved to get started. My GI specialist said Fallon Health Care is terrible and I'd have to agree based on this delay.

The major hospitals aren't much better, my girlfriends 89 year old mother sat in BWH for 4 hours without a nurse responding to multiple buzzes to help her to the toilet (she just had neck surgery) and finally peed on the floor. Due to that we expedited the release to Braintree Rehab yesterday and today don't they yell at her and treat her like crap all day today, to the point the girlfriend is pulling her out and bringing her home to stay with us instead. She was with us for a few weeks prior to surgery and with a finished basement it will work out, but that is where we spend most of our time and I'm not looking forward to the 80 degrees she likes the heat on.

Like my dear old departed Dad always said; getting old isn't for sissies.

I'm normally a reasonable person but these situations are when it pays to be an #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&. If your doctors prescribe a treatment that the insurance pushes back on your dealing with a cost calculation set by some consultant bean counter.

Ask/Tell your doctor to demand the better drugs. They likely know the right key words to make it go through. Doctors don't usually prescribe medication stronger than necessary.
