That is a SLICK setup and GREAT on fuel. (If you haven't seen it, or can't find it, I'll dig up the info online.)

I think next boat I'd SERIOUSLY consider this just for the fuel range alone.

I know Osprey boats offer a diesel I/O. They might have some info on it.

Is this the 4cyl I/O ? Pro sports or Sportcraft - forget which - was installing them a couple years ago....

http://popularmechanics.com/outdoors/boating/2003/7/balance_of_power/

thats the article

Cummins 1.7liter turbo inline 4 on an Alpha 1 lower unit...
Great combo IMHO
a bit more expensive... but WELL worth it from those stats...

anyone know someone who's got one?
i might sniff around at Fairhaven Shipyard... see if there's one there...

We had the choice of the diesel or gas when we bought our Trophy.:D

What's the big deal - these have been offered in boats from Albemarle to Shamrock for 20+ years. Volvo matches their VM diesel to the duo prop (290 through DX series) - which is IMO a much better set-up then anything Merc can muster. Just note - The deisels are around 4" longer in the block. In many cases you can not retrofit them in place of the gas motor (even big blocks). We tried two years ago on a 26' Regulator - no dice.

That 1.7 liter diesel with the Alpha One drive has gotten some good press in the past few years. I seem to recall that ProSports catamaran teste from a years or so ago too.

I read the current Popular Mechanics article on Saturday at the barber's shop. Again I think those new Trophy walkarounds look sharp. I can't imagine anyone buying one with the gas 4 cylinder IO, but the diesel 4 seems like a viable option. If I were buying new I would probably go with a 150 HP outboard, but the test results on the diesel were impressive.

One who needs to hammer the throttles, will soon have an empty wallet. ;)

Nehow, the speed is about the same with the little turbo diesel.

If you fish ALOT then it makes a hell of alot more sense than either an outboard or gas I/O.

But then again, the perfect fishing rig is a Brownell or Surf Hunter.
And neither of those were very fast at the top end.
