Any interest in a rhodie codfishing get together this coming Saturday or the following week? I know the weather is a crap shoot but throwing a gob of bait out and seeing what happens sounds fun.

Charlestown breachway going to have Cod like the old days? ThrowingTimber 04-12-2016, 07:49 AM They were real close nov/dec If this happens lmk Im off 4.16 MakoMike 04-12-2016, 08:33 AM I won't be walking by then, but if I was going to go, I would think about that deep water in front of the Castle hill inn. Rob Rockcrawler 04-12-2016, 09:08 AM Looks like a sustained NE wind all week. Wondering if a breachway or some pace around Newport would be better. Might be a little cleaner in the deeper waters around newport. ThrowingTimber 04-12-2016, 10:37 AM those ledges eat 90# jinkai likes its butter, sucks when you have a fish on. DZ 04-12-2016, 11:12 AM If it helps most of the RI winter/early spring surf cod caught back in the day were taken in less than 20 feet of water, all action was after dark. I gave Rob some locations via PM that were once productive. A simple sliding fish finder rig that you would use for baiting striped bass from the surf is all you need. Rig with a short 1 foot long leader and 5/0-6/0 hook and whole small squid or half large squid. Cast and wait for the bite while telling fish stories. One of our local charter captains, BJ Silvia, of Flippin Out Charters had some small market cod in his boat just off Newport only two weeks ago. RIROCKHOUND 04-13-2016, 05:12 AM Should try the Island, I hear the head boats are fishing in tight.... RickBomba 04-13-2016, 06:14 AM Again, if I didn't have these bolts and rods in my back, I would head down there...first follow-up is Tuesday. It's with my pain doc, who I swear is the best doctor at MGH. If he gives me the greenlight, I will PM you Rob (for the next weekend). vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
