Sandman and Mako Mike,
Heading down to the Block Island area next weekend. Any word on the tuna bite up on the shelf in and around that area? I'm hoping the've picked up and the waves will have calmed down by the weekend.

I hear some reports of scattered pods of bluefin anywhere from Cox's to the acid barge. No one I know if has actually caught one. I hear theings are pretty good out in the canyons. I might try to get out there this week or next, if the wether clears up. Can't fish for the next two weekends :(

We pushed our weekend to Block Island out to next weekend given the weather situation. Hopefully there will be a dual benefit and the tuna action on the shelf will pick up before then. Any late reports?

Fish,
With the way the weather has been I have't heard of any boats heading offshore this week.

The weather sucked towards the canyons and anything in between...

0 fun to be had in the crud out there right now.

There are fish though...

I spoke to a fellow yesterday who has made 5 trips this year for tuna...only one decent bluefin and a few small yellowfin. He says there is quite a heave on now and it does not look to be getting any better.
Nothing much in CC range yet.... did better heading more west then south.

40 boats fished the tri-state shootout out of bi. largest fish was a yellowfin at 52 pounds caught at the veatchs. long ride. some yellows at the 500 this week but its hit or miss for most boats. it will get better. on a brighter note theres huge bass everywhere. :D i think this is a bass site isn't it?:D

These are canyon locations correct? Sorry but I'm not totally familiar with all of the structure names. Have you heard any reports of fish up on the shelf? Places like butterfish hole, cox's ledge, the dump, or the fingers? What are the yellow's being caught with? Trolling or chunking?

very good fishing today and saturday west of the dump around the 650 square. yellows albies tons of mahi and a few white marlin. have heard of a few 100-200 pound bluefin taken in even closer but very spotty at best inside of the 700. head south this weekend and enjoy. headed out saturday mid day and back out again early sunday of next weekend if weather permits. nice easy run for some good fish while it last.:D  :D

Wow! Fantastic News! I feel like a 16 year old the week before the prom with my Daddy's Porsche and keys to the oceaside condo. Now all I need is my date to show up.

I'll be staying at Block Island on Friday and Saturday night, fishing Saturday and Sunday. If the fishing is that good we might even make a qiuck run on Friday afternoon. I've got a full spread of trolling gear for yellows. Would you recommend that I gear up for chunking as well or is trolling the way to go?

I know the area west of the dump a little but I'm not familiar with the 650 square or the 700 (really showing my inexperience here). Are these Loran references? Can you throw out a couple Lat Lon's to help me understand where the 650 square and 700 are?

Thanks DF!

179 Can you recommend a good launch ramp in Pt Judith with safe overnight parking? I'll be fishing the weekend down your way, southeast of BI if you want to touch base on the radio. Be happy to share fish that I find with someone that might want to do the same.

Devil,
What days did you fish?
Fish,
You're best bet is probably the ramp in Wakefield, just off rte. 1 take the salt pond road exit. You'll have to travel the legnth of the pond but the parking lots there are populated at all hours of the day and night, unlike the lots down near great island.

Lots of boats off the OB ferry dock each morning....in search of bonito...I have not seen anyone cathing but they must be to have all those boats hanging out with fly rods in hand till 10:00am.

Mako Mike,
I've looked at this link in Rhode Island but I don't see the ramp you are refering to. I was looking for more details on it along with a possible address/street that I can look up directions to. I can't understand why it wouldn't be listed. It is public right?

Its the one listed under South Kingstown, Marina Park Exit......

Fish On,
The public ramp toonoc suggested would be your best bet for overnight parking. If you are going to be away for the weekend park in the furthest lot from the ramp.

I plan to be around BI Fri or Sat, if the weather is good I may venture to the Acid Barge, if not I will be looking for stripers at the Southeast Light.

It would be great to have a SB.com contact out there looking for those real fast fish :)

Give me a shout on channel 69......

Fish,
Its right on Salt Pond Road in wakefield. If you look at a map, salt pond road comes down under Rte. 1 and dead ends where it meets the creek. Hanson's resturant is right next to the ramp on the east and the URI sailing club is on the west. Its almost directly across rte 1 from South county hospital. Hope that helps.

Mako Mike's got the restaruant, Hanson's Landing.....

Denis, fished that hole a couple times this weekend (mornings & evenings), a slow pick of a few small bass on poppers, no bonanza's. Dropped a couiple better fish. Did better near my dock :D

Hanson's Landing bar/restaruant can have some nice scenery in there on Fri and Sat evenings, and I am not talking about the water views ;)

Fish,
I go by 179 on the VHF, just checked the marine forecast again and it looks like nearly perfect conditions on Friday, 1' seas and light winds. As of now I'm planning on hitting the Acid Barge area...We will probably be on the water at 4:30 am...

I won't be getting out onto the water until Friday noon or so but I will definately give you a shout. Thanks. Tight lines!
