View Full Version : New Boat
Looking to upgrade from the 13' "boat" I currently have to something trailerable in the 23' range.
Thinking I'd love a CC(onsole) but with a new fishing buddy coming soon and a wife that doesn't always love peeing in the water, I'm thinking something with some cabin space (and bathroom) might make more sense.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good fishing boat that can serve light double duty for the occasional family trip?
Boat would be primarily used in CT and the Cape. Looking in the $8-12k range. Also have a preference for an outboard motor for ease of access for maintenance purposes.
bassballer 09-06-2016, 11:12 AM id take a look at a parker. great fishing platform with a berth
bobber 09-06-2016, 01:24 PM I'm in the same "boat" as you..... my budget is lower
for 10-12K you can get a walkaround from early 2000's that'll have some cabin space/potty- they seem to be less expensive then center con's.....
I 2nd the Parker

Raider Ronnie 09-06-2016, 02:49 PM I HIGHLY recommend a sea trial on a Parker before considering buying.
Good looking boat.
Built well, but they Pound.

Interesting, I've read good things about Parkers... I'll have to see if I can get in one to see if I like it.
Anything else I should keep my eyes on?

piemma 09-07-2016, 10:14 AM I have had 2 Sea Hunt CCs. Driest hull on the water for their size. They make a Sea Hunt Cuddy but I' don't know anything about them.
Guppy, Clammer and I all have basically the same Sea Hunts and we all love them.

Clammer has a brandy new Yami 150. Like Gup I have a Yami 115 4S. I have over 1200 hours with no issues. Clammer makes fun of me but, just for the record, I change oil, filters (gas and oil) every 100 hours. I install new NGK Iridium plugs every year.
I think the big thing is I run Fuel Ox, as directed, every time I put gas in. Previously I ran Yamaha Ring Free with every gas fill. Call me crazy but I have not had one ounce of trouble in 6 years with this motor.
I ran from Warwick Cove to the West Wall, to Brenton Reef and back last Sunday, chasing Bones, drifting for Fluke and BSB and I burned 10 gallons. Amazing gas mileage.
Clammer 09-08-2016, 05:57 PM Paulie . 4 years already .......... the lower unit is newer :lurk:
Fish On 09-08-2016, 09:33 PM I absolutely loved my Hydra-Sports 2150 WA Cuddy with hard top and full enclosures. Mine was a 1995 Vectra Hull which is one solid boat. I would buy it back today if available. Throw a new 250 HP 4 stroke or direct inject and it would be perfect. Great for fishing and comfortable for pleasurable weekend sleepovers.

Can't be!! Doesn't seem like 4 years.
Clammer, there's medication available if you have issues with your lower unit.

sburnsey931 09-12-2016, 06:56 PM I have had a Trophy 2302 Walkaround 7-8 years now...repowered this year with 200 Merc direct inject..... I had spent much more time on my Albemarle since I bought it.
Forgot how much fun the Trophy was....30 mph...sips fuel.....Paid 16K when I bought it....repowered because of my grandkids.....wanted a safe platform for my son and his 3 sons. Someday I'll be done with the big boat and will go back to the Trophy.

Thanks for all the tips guys, some of these suggestions seem really good. One caveat is that the vehicle I'll be using to tow this is a '02 Tundra (before they went to the larger body style) which is rated for 7,500 lbs. I'm still torn between the walk around or center console style.

Ah yes... the quandary of every angler with a significant other who wants a vote.
The saga continues... but the wife has informed me she wants a CC, which is pretty cool.
I've started looking at the Sea Hunts, May-Crafts, and Hydra-Sports. At this point I've narrowed it down to a mid 2000s hull & power, rather than trying my gambling luck with older stuff.
Now just to sit and wait for the right deal. Thanks for all the help here!

Also, I'd like to mention how crazy it is that I started this in September... it feels like yesterday
