Found 3 within the last 2 days. Gave the biggest one, 10# +, away. I sautéed one yesterday with garlic, shallots, fresh oregano in a bit of olive oil and 1/2 a stick of unsalted butter. It was the best mushroom we ever ate.

Just had my first foraged yesterday. Technically I found them last year but they were in an area of higher ground that dries quickly and they were very dry when found last year. I couldnt leave them to dry up again this year (they already were getting there) this time so I took them small despite better judgement :) so damn good...

If the weather forecast holds steady, the conditions might improve enough to be able to find some.

For the novice (myself included) fungi scrounging is not like picking them in you own garden. You have to go look for them!

One other point to remember is that some fungi (mushrooms) can be deadly, so it pays to know EXACTLY what you are looking for and what you are harvesting!

Every year or so you will see/hear news story of people going mushroom hunting and picking and eating the WRONG kind....with dire consequences! Some poison mushrooms destroy the liver, so that if you ingest them and survive you will probably need a liver transplant at some point in your near future!

That being said, the "good" ones are just that....GOOD and tasty!

Just another thing this drought has adversely affected....mushrooms.
