The Block Island Inshore Fishing Tourney

Sept. 26, 27 & 28, 2003
Benefiting the National Children’s Cancer Society

Back for this annual event in it's third year ~ we are once again joining forces with Sandy Point Fly Leader Co. to sponsor and organize this true grassroots tournament. Come on out to Block Island, Rhode Island and experience the great fishing Block Island has to offer. Fly, Spin, Boat, & Surf divisions/categories all go head to head in this unique lottery format where anything can happen. This year, instead of 24 hours as in the past two events, we have opted to extended the tourney the entire weekend. Kicking off on Friday evening at 6pm and running until Sunday 12 noon ~ we hope the extension of time will allow more fishermen the ability to compete. National and local businesses have donated generous prizes for winners. $35 dollar entry fee includes a tourney T-shirt and one ticket to the post event all you can eat and drink cookout. Check back soon for complete details. All of the proceeds will once again be donated to the...

Duke,
Don't forget that there is no striped bass fishing allowed more than 3 miles from the BI shore except on the north end between BI and Pt Judith.

I am interested in this tourney. I would be willing to chip in on a house also. I freakin love that place. Maybe we could get 3-4 boats entered and everyone split the costs.

This is a great response I will get on the housing situation this weekend. I am going to have at least one guy on my boat, I may be able to cycle a few of you on to her if you so desire. More info to follow.

Damn,

I can't make it and I would really love in on this one:mad:

Oh yeah, I am going to be in the middle of three weeks on another storied island fishing in what is in my not so humble opinion the bestest tournamnet of all.

Sandman, I hope to meet you when I am down...we might have mutual friends

Did some home work today and we are not going to get any great deal from anyone so far. The best place so far is Champlains Marina in New Harbor. two nights for the price of one. It will costs about 80 per guy for a double room. I will probably stay there unless there is somewhere free I can put Surfrunner. Still waiting on the Realtors, they are very lazy. SO far it looks like the following guys are going.

duke try paynes dock right now its a dollar cheaper a foot and there a very loose fun bunch. last year at the same time it was the sea-ray:smash: convention over at champlins. paynes is also only 200 feet from the weigh in. team devils and team trayder may be in as well.

Bump :D

I've sprung it on the wife, and will probably go out Saturday, fish most of the night, hang out for the cookout, and come back Sun PM. MIGHT be able to get the Jeep from her too :hee: I'm looking to surfcast the shore....

Duke, did you get anywhere with the house? If not, I'd probably just rough it anyways, or maybe go the cheapo boarding house route (don't plan to spend much time inside)

Duke,
Did the rates Champlins quoted you include a slip, or mooring?

179
08-26-2003, 10:12 AM
Called for some rates:

Paynes Dock: $2.00 per foot, per night $45.00 min rate, shouldn't be any problem with avail. space. (401) 466-5572

Paynes suggested the Narr. Inn Hotel very close to docks, Price is $130.00 per night, bare room just bed and shower.. (401) 466-2626.

-------------------------------------------------

Champlins Marina: $3.00 per foot, per night, shouldn't be a problem with avail space. (401) 466-2626, Rooms: king size bed waterview $132.50 per night, other rooms avail.

Seems like Champlins is the better equipped marina, but a bit more expensive....!!!

Alright, I typically don't have a ton to share on this board but in this case may be able to give something back - one of the places I stay while on the island is a guest house called The Driftwind Inn which is on High Street very close to Old Harbor. Not very publicized and like to keep low key but will share with you all. Place is run by an older woman named Claire, I think she has four bedrooms, some with singles, some with doubles, so could probably squeeze some extras in - it is a shared bath. Rate is $60 cash per evening/per room, no tax. Two night minimum in season but later in September she's likely to be flexible. Don't have her number with me but she is listed.

Hope this helps, good luck in the tourney.

Oliver

Sorry for pumping this thing up and then fading out of the picture. I have to do 4 make up charters this weekend and can not get out to the tourney. I will be fishing the Fountain and Brenton's Reef this weekend both days all day.
