View Full Version : Hunting Injury - Need some Ts &Ps
Liv2Fish 12-30-2016, 10:28 AM Happy New Year everyone!
I wanted to share some scary news. My Uncle Matt Pearle was hunting on Dec 23rd and fell from his tree stand from about 25' up. After inspecting the tree stand, it appears someone intentionally cut his supports straps almost completely through. As soon as he put all of his weight on it, it let go. He landed on his back, severely fracturing his spine and had to be air lifted to RI Hospital. He had surgery on Dec 28th to fuse 12" stainless rods to either side of his spine.
Matt has been an avid hunter and fisherman since long before I was born. He lives in Wareham. He's not a member of SB but I'm sure some of you from that area know him. He's a self employed carpenter and will be out of work for many months so we've set up a go fund me account to help out.
Thanks Guys and I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year. Looking forward to the spring and getting back into the game with the SB crew again.

What kind of a person could do such a thing.
Thoughts and prayers sent.

I doubt that was it.
Unfortunately....Hunting suffers from some of the same issues as Fishing....particularly the "My Spot" syndrome.
My guess is....someone who regularly hunts that area or even possibly has a stand nearby,,,saw Matt's stand and deliberately sabotaged it.
What a shame though...I hope whomever did it learns of your uncles' injury and feels the guilt of their actions.
May God forgive him....AND help your uncle recover as best as possible.
Not a good start to the new year...:(

Hookedagain 01-03-2017, 07:04 PM I heard about this, Mike Thomas is friends with him. Mike is pissed!
Got Stripers 01-04-2017, 04:18 PM Boy that's pretty low to risk killing someone to move him out of your hunting spot or save the deer over a human life. To bad he didn't have a game camera in the next tree over.

Liv2Fish 01-04-2017, 10:03 PM Thanks Guys!
Matt wanted me to pass along a big thank you to all of you for the thoughts and support. The surgery seems to have gone fairly well. He really had a hard time with the pain meds at first with nausea, etc. Could only take Tylenol until they got him on something he could tolerate. He's been moved to Spalding Rehab in Sandwich, where he'll be for about a month. Still got a long way to go but he's up and walking for short stints, so that's progress.
Thanks Again!
